Ford Losing Ground in TN
Rasmussen Poll ^ | 3-6-06

I knew my neighbors 30 miles to the north would come to their senses and turn on that bum. I've always thought that Ford is unelectable in a statewide election in TN.

March 6, 2006--In the race to fill the Senate seat now held by departing Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R), support for Republican nominees is improving as support for Representative Harold Ford, the likely Democratic nominee, weakens.

Of the Republican candidates, Representative Ed Bryant fares best against Ford, leading 45% to 36%. In January, the Rasmussen Reports Tennessee election poll showed Bryant leading 42% to 40%.

Representative Van Hilleary leads Ford 43% to 35%. Support for Hilleary is unchanged since January, but Ford was then at 37%.

Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker leads Ford 39% to 35%. Support for both Corker and Ford has declined since January. With both men below 40% and a quarter of the voters undecided, it's hard to say either candidate is ahead in this match-up.

Respondents unaffiliated with either major party favor the Republican candidates by roughly two-to-one margins. But moderates prefer Ford over the Republicans by about the same large margins.

Ford is viewed favorably by 47%, about the same as shown by our last poll. Bryant is viewed favorably by 44%, a slight decline. Corker is viewed favorably by 38%, a six-point decline. The number of voters who view Hilleary favorably is unchanged at 51%.

Ford enjoys the second-highest favorable rating of the four candidates in our poll. But he also has the highest unfavorable rating.

"He's from an area of TN that is largely right-of-center by nature."

Wrong. Only East Tennessee leans right. The further west you go, the more liberal it gets. Remember your geography lessons; there are three "grand" divisions of Tennessee (East, Middle, and West). Trust me, this refers to political ideology as well as geographical.

And remember, Ford was pivotal in defending Clinton in impeachment and in some reports is the one that brokered the deal with the Senate that allowed the perp in chief to walk. He is also one of the family members who "resides" at the funeral home in order to vote for Uncle John and Ophelia. He says one thing in the white portions of town and behaves quite differently in Washington, DC or in the city limits. Too many seem to be buying into the media's portrayal of him as a "moderate." He is not. He is positioning as Hillary is to try to appeal to more voters.

Ford Sr was indicted in the Butcher Brothers Banking failures. Many East Tennessee people lost their life savings in their Savings and Loan fiasco and the United American Bank also failed under Butcher Brother control. Link to TBI Ford SR IIRC was in other problems also but when Slick Wille was elected POTUS all charges against Ford Sr were dropped. Any search of Butcher Banking +Harold Ford SR will get some hits.

Corker is a RINO, likes more and higher taxes from what I hear.

I did some look ups and I pretty much agree.

Thank you for pointing out the obvious. Ford is nothing but a snake oil salesman on TV

He was on Imus yesterday. A campaign ad of his was shown, which IIRC, claims that President Bush knew that the levees would breach before the storm hit. This is the false and throroughly discredited AP claim, but it was touted around the clock for about 3 days, so I guess it's fair game for a 'Rat ad. Of course Congress would never pass a law saying that campaign ads cannot contain outright lies.

Thanks for the web site.

The one thing I learned being a member of FR was to do your own research. Seeing that Cornyn had a score of 100% conservative voting and knowing that he had voted for CAFTA, one of the most unconservative bills ever passed, I decided that this web site lacked adequate criteria to call themselves conservative.

Gail, I'm an old lurker from La Vergne (Rutherford County). I've been reading your posts and want to know how you feel about Gov. Bredesen(D). He has started an exploratory committee for the Presidency. Is he qualified? Who beats him? (from Tennessee). By the way, thanks for keeping everyone up to date on the Fords. Their track record is despicable.

Oily Phil might want the WH, but he doesn't have the personality to attract nationwide voters. His record as TN Governor is not stellar either. He has failed to fix TennCare as he promised in his bid for the governor's mansion. The demwits front runner is the Hildabeast, and the rest of the demwit herd won't buck her I don't think.

I decided that this web site lacked adequate criteria to call themselves conservative.

The ACUnion picks specific bills (about 10 final votes) each year. They have been doing this since 1971. They do not measure each vote in Congress. Your Senator's rating was 93, not 100.

I also checked out Vote Smart regarding Ford. I guess they have practically every bill he has voted on listed. CAFTA wasn't there either.

CAFTA is the bill I will be basing my votes on this year. I will vote against anyone who voted for CAFTA.
