Bush made his own bed on the Ports deal. His WH people didn't even call in the affected Senators and congressmen for consultations. You ALWAYS do that. And you never trot your President out to threaten a veto like that.

Yes I agree that somebody down the line should have presented the whole deal, that our former great president Clinton was looking out for US security to the tune of $600,000 plus to be coequally shared by the first senator from NewYork.

Further that the former Defense Secretary Cohen, and former Secretary of State, Maddie Albright, and others were to be a part of protecting our ports. The final comfort, would have been to know that Joe Lockhart (of DanRather memo fame) would be their spokesman.

Yes the White House really really really messed up!!!!
