DNC: Cheney Ignores Security in South Florida Port Call
usnewswire ^ | 3/6/2006 | PRESS RELEASE

WASHINGTON, March 6 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Today, Vice President Cheney is in South Florida to raise money for Republican Congressman Clay Shaw and the Collier County Republican Party. While in Florida, Cheney should explain President Bush's decision to short-circuit normal oversight of a deal that would outsource the operation of six American ports-including the port in Miami- to a foreign, state-owned company, and why the Bush Administration has refused to improve security at America's ports. Only five percent of cargo containers that enter America are searched for weapons of mass destruction and radiological detection screening is also extremely rare.

"Instead of raising special interest cash for local Republicans, Cheney should explain to Floridians why the Bush Administration wants to outsource the management of the Miami port to a foreign government-owned company," said Democratic National Committee spokesman Damien LaVera. "The American people are losing confidence in the Bush Administration because it has consistently failed to improve port security, secure our borders, or protect our critical infrastructure.

"Democrats know that homeland security begins with hometown security, and are fighting to protect our ports from current and future threats. That is why we will continue to fight to make sure our ports and borders secure, and make homeland security a real priority."

President Bush Still Fails To Secure Our Ports. U.S. Customs and Border Protection only screen about 5 percent of containerized cargo entering the country for weapons of mass destruction. Furthermore, technology devices capable of detecting radiological material is not available at all U.S. ports; in fact, "only one of the six ports (in the Dubai deal)... is equipped with a working radiation-detection system that every cargo container must pass through." (Miami Herald, 2/16/06; New York Times, 1/23/06)

Bush White House Has Rebuffed Democratic Efforts To Enhance Port Security. Since 9/11, the Bush Administration has consistently opposed Democratic efforts to increase funding for port security by nearly $2.4 billion. (Senate Appropriations Committee)

Naw, the MSM is actually beginning to differentiate between a "port" and a "crane". The Democrats are not sufficiently intelligent to do so.

This story is dieing.

The port deal has nothing to do with security, but that fact has been explained at length, and over and over, so that if you don't get it by now, you're not going to.

Wolf Blitzer seemed to get it today on "situation room". Even gave the foreign affairs guy from the UAE time to tell how his country helped with gulf war 1, kosovo, war on terror and the such. Of course then he had to allow that jackass cafferty to chime in. Gotta love a side that can only argue with lies.

Why should I read anything that is such an outrageous deliberate falsehood.

"Democrats know that homeland security begins with hometown security..."

Oh!
So that's why Chicago's Mayor 'King Richie II' Daley wants to put Cop Cameras in your LIVING ROOM - "hometown security".

Sheesh, could have fooled me, but I feel much better now. /s
