Israelis see red over Indo-US nuke deal

Jerusalem, March 6: Against the backdrop of the recent Indo-US nuclear deal, the Israeli defence industry has expressed concern that the United States' tightening security ties with India will adversely affect their prospects in one of their key markets.

"The Americans understood Israel is taking a huge market away from them. It took them time to respond, but they eventually did," a source at Israel's defence industries told local daily 'Yediot Ahronoth'.

"From now on it will be much harder to carry out arms deals in India," the source added. "The US plans on turning India into one of its arms industries' main export markets following the recent nuclear deal between the two countries during President Bush's visit to India," the report said.

India had emerged as the single largest purchaser of Israeli defence systems capping the Phalcon deal worth $1 billion.

I agree with you on ending this conversation. If you think legitimate objections to CERTAIN Israeli policies are anti-semitic conspiracy theories, I have nothing more to say.

The rest of your post does not make any sense either.

It's India's choice to buy from where. If Israel has something to afford at a reasonable price, it should be good enough in the competition for India to choose. Israel should accept competition. In fact, Israel has high grade equipments good enough to compete with US equipments anyways. There is nothing to fear for Israel.

LOL....looks like I irritated some people inadvertently this morning. All I was doing was objecting to the Israeli sales of advanced weapons systems to communist China (which threatens all of us in Asia-Pacific-Australia).

Message to Israel:Stop selling weapons to the communist chinese.

Actually, after the US complained, Israel nixed their deals with China, and agreed to screen future deals through the US. Get your facts straight.

Oh crap. Memo to congresscritters. If a stuffed brown paper bag appears on your doorstep addressed from the Indian Nation, don't open it.

One of those news reports is available in post #2!! Funny to see somebody accusing you of not "getting facts straight." The Israeli-Chinese arms connections is nothing new and neither are repeated US objections over these stealth deals.

I love Israel too (as pointed out earlier). However, this sale of sensitive military technology to China has to end NOW.

The reason why Israelis resumed sale of weapons to China is because of the nuclear deal with India.

As far as India doesn't proliferate -- all it takes is one scientist/official. AQ Khan didn't get caught for 20 years, remember that.

Does that mean you regret your mention of the USS Liberty incident?:

Unlike Israel, India doesn't steal US State secrets (Pollard), doesn't bomb US ships (USS Liberty)

"Actually, after the US complained, Israel nixed their deals with China, and agreed to screen future deals through the US. Get your facts straight."

Actually they only nixed the drones deal after we nailed their asses to the wall. Sanctions for 6 to 9 months from late 04 into the third quarter of 05, canceling joint exercises, and the nail in the coffin was the F35 fighter project worth billions. Then and only then did Israel see the light. How about the missiles on the Chinese jet fighter that crashed into our AWAC and the satellite issue? I will support Israel despite this but I will call them on it and support sanctions and other efforts to curtail these activities in the future. I do believe however that this F35 issue will have resonance for many years and I believe several Israeli officials lost their jobs over the drone deal.

Interesting.I hadn't heard that news. Last I knew Israel agreed to screen arms exports to China through the US. I am sure that if Israel is actually going back on the deal the US will take apprpiate steps. Unfortunately, the article is missing key pieces of information like: A)If this is simply talk?

B) Whether these deals have been screened with the US

The article did say Israel would be keeping in mind US interests. Frankly I would be surprised that Israel, after the first China deal, would do an about face. US was pretty upset. Doesn't make sense.

But I agree that if Israel is reneging on the deal to screen stuff through the US it is troubling, we'll have to wait and see.

pganini:

Stop posting your pro-Chinese Communist propoganda. We know where you stand on issues w.r.t. communist China. Indians don't proliferate. Your ChiCom masters and their Pakistani lackeys do. Stop trolling the threads.

Looks like you haven't been able to get over the comments made by that professor of yours. Get a life and ask your friends in the pulitburo to change first.

India is a democratic country unlike China. It doesn't need lectures from countries that have never had democracy in your entire history (remember Tiannamen Square?).

I see. I don't keep up with these things as well as you do. I did not know the full extent of sanctions. Despite this arms sale to China, I would not go crazy like Kenavi is about the Pollard, and Liberty incedents. The Chinese arms sales are far more substantive problems to US interests.

Frankly I'm more for isolationist policies myself. I am not in favor of this India deal. Who knows when India is going to turn against us? I say US should pull out of the foreign arena.
