It looks pretty good on a resume to say 'Former Congressional Aid'.
And if you are working at his home office, there probably isn't all that much to do either.
Even in private industry this happens. I have referred people to companies only to have them tell me they were used for walking dogs, picking up laundry...
It's embarrassing and unprofessional.
