AP FRIDAY NIGHT CLARIFICATION ON BUSH/KATRINA VIDEO ('OVERTOPPED' NOT 'BREACHED')

Clarification: Katrina-Video story ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) _ In a March 1 story, The Associated Press reported that federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees in New Orleans, citing confidential video footage of an Aug. 28 briefing among U.S. officials.

The Army Corps of Engineers considers a breach a hole developing in a levee rather than an overrun. The story should have made clear that Bush was warned about floodwaters overrunning the levees, rather than the levees breaking.

The day before the storm hit, Bush was told there were grave concerns that the levees could be overrun. It wasn't until the next morning, as the storm was hitting, that Michael Brown, then head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said Bush had inquired about reports of breaches. Bush did not participate in that briefing.

Sounds like the AP learned the "friday night garbage dump" from the Clinton administration.

Dump your bad news on Friday night when nobody will notice.

AP is more than part of the MSM -- it drives the MSM. Most newspapers get the majority of their non-local news from AP.

Boiler Room is closer to the truth about retail.

Boiler Room was an awesome flick! My 2-cents:

* I like the fact that they pay homage to Wall Street in the movie.

* I thought Vin Diesel was solid in his role. What happened since is anyone's guess.

* All in all, great casting (especially Giovanni Ribisi and Nicky Katt) but I could have done without seeing Bennifer's face.

So, back on topic, this story is yet another example of the "drive-by" MSM doing what they do best. B@stards! The lot of 'em!

Did you not post something very similar to this either here or on another forum? Or is it a dejavu moment for me?

Boiler Room was despicable in that it was so close to the truth; albeit in a simplistic way. It was a tad sophomoric, as relates to the actual goings on, as close to accurate as anything likely to come out of Hollywood or NYC.

"Oh, my heart. I'm havin' the big one!"

There are a lot of letters like that in the Dead Letter Office. Now if you had addressed it to...ELIZABET'

Well, that would be different.

"I'm starting to think there are a lot of little egomaniacs in the AP who don't want to be just journalists and writers, but instead they want to be kingmakers and big-time political players."

You don't seriously believe anyone who's entered journalism since Watergate lacks a huge ego, do you? Every last one of them is dying to be the next one to crucify a Republican President. Guilty? Doesn't matter. Just gimme the headlines and the bylines.

Well it wasn't quite Glengarry Glen Ross, but not bad.

didn't see it. in the same vain as "Tin Men," was it not?

Now there was another quaint brush with the truth, embellished.

Hmmm....White House Press Secretary John Bolton...boy would that be a laugher--watching the W.H. press corps squirm and writhe in agony in reaction to someone who is so honest and blunt.

On September 1, 2006, President Bush himself used the word "breach," which further complicated the story for the White House. In a TV interview, the president said, "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees." One reason why I used the word "breach" is because the veracity of the president's statement has been at the center of the post-Katrina analysis and government review.

[This is an excerpt from an email from an AP reporter which is copied in full in post to which I am responding.]

Sometimes liberals accidentally say precisely what they mean. What the reporter is saying is: Since the President used the word "breach", and the veracity of the President was central to the purpose of this story, then the only way I could infer that the President is a liar is to also use the word "breach".
