Petition: NBC Should Fire David Gregory

A new website -- FireDavidGregory.com -- debuted today calling on NBC to oust its chief White House correspondent, David Gregory.

The website includes a petition that outlines two recent incidents involving Gregory that propelled him into the national spotlight. The first was a boisterous encounter with White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan, and the second was Gregory’s odd behavior yesterday on Don Imus’ program.

“These two episodes illustrate serious breaches in journalistic integrity,” the petition reads. “Mr. Gregory has done damage to NBC News' reputation and the reputation of journalism as a whole.

“Journalists should report the story, not become a part of it. Mr. Gregory, who was unable to control his emotions at a White House press conference and behaved inappropriately on a nationally syndicated radio program, is unfit to work for NBC News.”

The petition asks NBC Chairman Bob Wright to immediately fire Gregory or ask him to resign.

Video of Gregory on Imus’ program -- Imus accused him of being drunk -- is prominently displayed on the website. There is also a clip of Gergory at the White House briefing when he yelled at McClellan about the handling of Vice President Cheney’s accidental shooting.

“In the past month, Mr. Gregory has become part of the stories he is supposed to cover,” the petition says. “This is not the proper role of a journalist, especially someone as powerful of Mr. Gregory, who covers President Bush and the White House.”

In the last year, they have really gone over the cliff

Speaking of cliffs (somewhat), how could a beautiful man like Montgomery Clift and Eleanor Clift have the same name. There is no justice.

Does anyone really believe that in the competitive business of network news, and while on a presidential trip, in the middle of the day, an NBC White House Correspondent would be drunk?

In the remote possibility that a professionally ambitious reporter like Gregory was on something, do you think he would still have his job 48 hours after the incident?

If there is anything, ANYTHING, to the story, why did Drudge take it down before the end of the day?

I happen to like it that Gregory acts like a jerk and a junk yard dog sometimes. We need more junk yard dogs. I suspect that W likes Gregory or he wouldn't have been on the presidential press plane for this trip.

Absolutely. The LSM as the fourth estate has been an utter failure. From idealism to agitprop, the LSM has pushed for their own definition of what America should be. Liberalism has morphed from socialism after the economic underpinning of their idiology has been discredited. (You can thank Milton & Freidrich and the Chicago boys for that!) So how do you hide in broad daylight without anyone seeing you? You become the establishement. You get respectability by becoming teachers and journalists, bureaucrats and administrators. Bref they invoke the american ideal of freedom and liberty while at the same time they dismantle the very underpinnings of american society and culture. Once they are done, America will be a different place. A country unrecognizable. The old men who built this country will be cast away, their words manipulated to advance a contemporary vision of an America contrary to the vision of it's founders.

The LSM is the facillitator supported by popular appeal through a vociferous hollywood elite who unmoored by any sense of country or duty will lay waste to traditional american values.

Am I an alarmist? Well take america circa 1959 and today. You can draw our own conclusions.

Americans cannot let this happen. In the end the destiny of america will be the destiny of the world. You guys carry a heavy burden and have allies in the fight however you guys will shoulder most of the burden.

"Am I an alarmist? Well take america circa 1959 and today. You can draw our own conclusions." --- I was 12 in '59. Yes the country then was a sweet fragrant country garden compared to the electronic/amoral/cracking parking lot it is today.

"You guys carry a heavy burden and have allies in the fight however you guys will shoulder most of the burden." --- "you guys" --- who guys????

The fight is in America. Canada and most of Europe is all but lost.
