Clemson Newspaper Gives Away Two Guns In Drawing (Protesters steal some tickets)

The Tiger Town Observer, an independent Clemson University newspaper, gave away two guns Thursday. The big prize was an AK-47.

The drawing was held Thursday evening in front of the Clemson library.

Organizers said they will not publicly release the winners names to protect thir privacy.

Also, the winners will not receive the guns Thursday. He or she must first go through an FBI background check.

The newpaper's Editor-in-Chief, Andrew Davis, said the drawing shows support for the Second Amendment- the right to bear arms.

The drawing drew many protestors on Monday, and because of that, Davis said he suspended giving out tickets.

Davis said protestors took more than 150 tickets without providing the requested $5 donation.

State law prohibits raffles so students could not sell tickets for the chance to win the gun.

Davis said, so far, the drawing has raised $700.

"We had one individual who donated $200 directly to our paper without accepting a single ticket and said he just wanted to help out with what we are doing," said Davis. "Twenty percent of the donations we have after the cost of the drawing are going towards a foundation protecting and promoting freedom in Iran. The other 80 percent goes to the newspaper. We are not funded by the university, and we don't accept a dime from them."

There was also a second prize in the drawing. A .22 calliber bolt action rifle was also given away.

What exactly are they protesting?

That a college student shouldn't own a gun?

That you can own a gun if you pay for it, but not if you get it for free or as a gift?

Hell, they're even doing a criminal background check with this reward, which is more scrutiny than you'd get if you bought it through a classified ad.

Oh wait, I remember now, a college lib is just a protestor looking for a reason. Some of the nastiest folks I've run across, and angry too.

Very cool. I once won a Smith & Wesson Model 686 (7 round .357 mag) in a drawing. Best thing I ever won.

They are nasty aren't they?

They are also ingrates which is their major problem..imo

When a person is given much and unthankful.. this leads to bitterness...and bitterness... to angry stupidity.

Every day give thanks for what you have and not fret for what you don't have or be jeolous of others..adhere to a principled life (sweat dont fret) and you have the best chance to be..

'Awwight'

Anything else is a waste of time and resources...

So the protesters were taking tickets but not giving the $5 donation that was requested.

Typical libs, take something and give nothing in return.

AK47? I would have kicked in for a few tickets my own self.

At this point they aren't protestors. They're thieves. Find them, arrest them, and charge them as felons.

I think it would be just as cool if one of the protesters won the rifle.....what would they do? Donate it to the FBI?

Sorry, I guess I should clarify. Pride in the giveaway, not the commie lib thief protestors. Although I hope that was obvious!

"Visitors to the United Nations look at a five-ton gun sculpture called "The Art of Peacemaking" by Canadian artists Sandra Bromley and Wallis Kendal entitled "Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons In All It's Aspects." The sculpture was made of more than 7 000 deactivated weapons and was created in hopes of promoting peace and ending world violence"

WBT in Charlotte had the newpaper's Editor-in-Chief, Andrew Davis, on the air yesterday.
He said the ads for the drawing had to be approved by Clemson University higher-ups.
The original copy had a picture of the AK-47 with a stack of Ammo in the backround.
The University said that the "BULLETS" would be "Disturbing" to the students, so he put a bunch of smiley faces and flowers in the backround.
They Approved that !!!

I find liberals disturbing

What exactly are they protesting?

The ugly truth of having to grow up one day and become an adult, only to earn money, see how much the government takes, and thus become (horreurs!) a Republican.

Guess those protesters have no education in the respect to the US Constitution and the high importance of the 2nd Amendment?

Guess those protesters can't conceive the thought that the public owning firearms could be a serious deterrent to military invasion of the US by a foreign power; civilian removal of tyrannical regimes like Saddam's if such was to ever occur; protecting one's own life, family, and property from gangs like MS-13?

Nawwwww those situations could never occur.

Mean old AK-47.

Never mind about the person behind the trigger.

Good thing most firearm owners have more sense than the protesters.

Amazing when you consider the school's history. My grandfather graduated from Clemson My father's educational experience there was interrupted by WWII.

BTW, do you IPTY?
