SUFFOLK -- A 22-year-old pregnant woman shot herself in the stomach last week and aborted her unborn child, Suffolk police said Tuesday.
Police arrested Tammy Skinner of Nancy Drive in Suffolk and charged her with illegally inducing an abortion, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and filing a false police report, said Lt. Debbie George, a police spokeswoman. Skinner was due to give birth last Thursday, the day she was found with a gunshot wound in her stomach at a downtown Suffolk car dealership. Court documents filed Monday to seal two search warrants in the shooting said the Suffolk Police Department "conducted an investigation resulting in charges producing an abortion or miscarriage by Tammy Skinner."
Illegally inducing an abortion carries a maximum 10-year prison term, officials said.

"She is a good mother," said Wanda Davis, a neighbor, whose daughter attended high school with Skinner. "These kids are her life." Uh, well, something doesn't add up.

WTHeck does that mean? You can go to a clinic or hospital and pay 100's of dollars for them to "induce" an abortion, but if you do it yourself it is illegal??? That's what it looks like. Killing the baby is OK. It just has to be done by a licensed professional.

Was the gun legal? I don't understand a person going to that extreme to rid themselves of a child. I wonder how much more to this story there is. If shes guilty then I hope she gets the 10 yrs. At least her other children will be safe from her for 10 yrs.

I live about 20 minutes from where this happened. When it was first reported, the woman claimed to have been shot in the stomach in the parking lot. I remember thinking at the time that it didn't quite add up because there was no description of the shooter, etc.
Her defense is going to be "prepartum" depression, which is a load of BS. Plenty of people suffer from depression and don't turn to murder to deal with it. If this woman didn't feel that she would be mentally able to handle being pregnant, than she should have kept her clothes on. At some point, people need to learn that they have to take responsibility for their own lives.

"She is a good mother"
Interesting definition of a good mother.
Not exactly my idea of one.....

Skinner told family members that she was supposed to meet her boyfriend, the baby's father, the night of the shooting to get money for the baby, Hoggard said last week. Larry Skinner said the relationship between the daughter and her boyfriend was strained. "They had their run-ins," he said.
Police declined to comment on whether Skinner tried to blame her boyfriend but said they were not investigating anyone else.
I'd wager that this was NOT an attempt to "induce abortion" (although the pro-abortion crowd would want to spin it that way in order to show how 'desperate' women would be without abortion)...this is about a woman trying to "get even" with her man.....My guess: she wanted to hurt the man through the child.

You can go to a clinic or hospital and pay 100's of dollars for them to "induce" an abortion, but if you do it yourself it is illegal??? Pretty much. A doctor has a 'license', the legal definition of which is *governmental permission*.
No government permission slip = 'illegal'.
-----------
The more I dig around, the further I'm convinced that this whole legal/illegal thing is a scam perpetuated by government in order to control the People.
Just my 2 cents :-)

I'm finding the same thing...alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, car seats, seat belts, helmets. It really just comes down to control - AND - money. Lots and lots of money in fees, licenses and fines. ***sigh***
Thanks for your 2 cents ... it was worth the it! ;*)

So to complete the task behind a closed door with an abortionist is legal?
Come on, she shouldn't be charged, I mean after all, she merely pulled a tooth without the dentist. /sarc
To: Lorianne
Lessee now, if abortion is done with a gun shot, how is that a crime more repugnant than when done with medical instruments and a vacume pump? Abortion is murder, no matter how they do it.
To: Lorianne
Illegally inducing an abortion carries a maximum 10-year prison term, officials said. But IMORALLY inducing an abortion is ok. What a country.

Yep. After 8 years of studying the federal Constitution, the Founders writings (along with the treatise, legal foundations & other writings they've quoted), the Texas Constitution, the federal and state statues and mountains of court decisions, NOWHERE is either the civil or statutory forms of government given the authority to define 'crime' for the People, nor can anything be considered 'law' that affects the People unless it's voted on by the People.

nor can anything be considered 'law' that affects the People unless it's voted on by the People. THANK YOU!!!
While I have not conducted the in depth studies you have, I have been saying this for 20 years.
When my state "instituted" the seat belt law, I stated, in the confines of my own home, that this couldn't possibly be a law, since I never cast a vote for it.
