State Senator Performs Heimlich On His Political Rival
ANNAPOLIS, Md., March 2, 2006 — The race for a state Senate seat in Prince George's County took an unexpected turn Monday night.
Democratic Senator John Giannetti performed the Heimlich maneuver on former delegate Jim Rosapepe, who will challenge Giannetti this fall in what was expected to be a hard-hitting campaign.
Giannetti says he had no idea who Rosapepe was when he stumbled into the bar at Maria's Sicilian Ristorante and Cafe. Rosapepe was choking, and Giannetti grabbed him and dislodged a piece of fish that was stuck in his windpipe.
Giannetti is among those who believes the incident could change the tone of the campaign.
Rosapepe has taken Giannetti to task for inviting University of Maryland students to tailgate parties where alcohol was served.
Holy calamari! That was a close call.
Fascinating.
And now for something completely different!
Giannetti: "It's a Sician letter. It means Rosapepe chokes with the fishes."
Mama mia, 'at'sa soma spicy meata ballah! (I mean fish ball)
From now on, Rosapepe will say: "Hold the scungili!"
