the white house has blown this thing, and continues to do so. first they had nothing to say while the story exploded, then they were screaming "VETO" right out of the box, then they were against a 45 day review even though everyone knew it was going to happen, now they are refusing to acknowledge that pushing this thing through "as is" is going to split the party - they have to compromise somewhere. when do they figure that out, on day 30 of 45?
If he wants to kill this deal, then he's operating from nothing but political considerations.
Bush has already compromised. He's agreed to the review. Congress wants legislation that will let them veto these deals, and Bush will shoot that down in a heartbeat. As he should.
Congress can't manage a budget. How in hell are they going to manage ports?
