The Orwell quote is idiotic.

Capitalism does not lead to war. As for the "scramble for markets" I have no idea what that is, or why it is bad.

Capitalism is an economic system. You can have a capitalist dictatorship and a capitalist democracy. Some Capitalist societies are warlike others aren't.

Every Marxist regime has been a dictatorship. The primary goal of Marxism is the establishment of the "dictatorship of the proletariat". Every Marxist regime regards all non-Marxist regimes as class enemies.

"...because redistribution by government is recommended by great thinkers on every campus in the USA and by barbara streisand."

But if you make a move on Barbra's estate her guards will shoot you ass.

It is true that about 500 years ago, Christian fanatics killed about 10,000 people over a 100 year time period (about 100/year) in the name of the Roman Catholic church. It is a shame on the record of an organization that claims to be promoting the ministry of Christ. Now compare this record to the example of the countries that have officially done away with religion. To the countries that have outright banned religion and imprisoned those who try to practice it (the ultimate test of the theory of separation of church and state).

That is actually not true. The prots killed about that many in Northern Europe because of witchcraft charges, but the Inquisition was about 3 per year and was carried out not by the Church but by the government trying to act in the name of the Church. A good book on the subject is here. I know the author pretty well. Some research at Yale recently uncovered a lot of what you knew about the Inquisition was false and were written in the 19th century by protestants. See more here.

"Why does the elite in the United States believe so deeply in Marxism?"

Because it was fashionable in the sixties. The elites were idealistic students who embraced revolutionary causes back then and, now, they have become the "establishment." Most of these students were influenced by Marxists intellectuals (Mao, the Frankfurt School, and, most recently, post modern French thinkers). The humanities is a breeding ground for this type of subversive thought. In the minds of the academics the fall of communism in Russia and all the atrocities associated with socialism and communism in the last century only proves that socialism and/or communism has not been successfully achieved yet -- they certainly don't critique their ideology to the point where the renounce it completely, as a flawed and dangerous ideology that's inevitably doomed to fail and worthy of being thrown into the dust bin of history. Most of these academics are rich and powerful and have made a lucrative and prestigious career of fighting Capitalism (Chomsky, West, Derrida, Fish, etc.). Cornel West pulls down $29,000 for one speaking engagement. I guess the real answer to your question is... unchanging human nature.

seems the good professor isn't clear on all his history. Out of all the religious wars in the history of the world Marxism is next to the catholic inquisition & the Catholic Crusades.? I think NOT.

Of all religions, secular and otherwise, that of Marxism has been by far the bloodiest – bloodier than the Catholic Inquisition, the various Catholic crusades, and the Thirty Years War between Catholics and Protestants.

Instead of being treated with respect and tolerance, Marxists should be treated as though they wished a deadly plague on all of us.

Well put.
