Media continues to ignore Bush's clarification on levy breach comment (Whitehouse.gov Transcript)
Whitehouse.gov ^ | March 2, 2006

Q Did they misinform you when you said that no one anticipated the breach of the levees?

THE PRESIDENT: No, what I was referring to is this. When that storm came by, a lot of people said we dodged a bullet. When that storm came through at first, people said, whew. There was a sense of relaxation, and that's what I was referring to. And I, myself, thought we had dodged a bullet. You know why? Because I was listening to people, probably over the airways, say, the bullet has been dodged. And that was what I was referring to.

Of course, there were plans in case the levee had been breached. There was a sense of relaxation in the moment, a critical moment. And thank you for giving me a chance to clarify that.

Bush made the clarification on sept 12 in new orleans.

Media is now saying Bush lied about how he didn't think anyone could anticipate a levy breach.

Bush like everyone else was hearing how new orleans dodged a bullet and the storm had moved east. New Orleans was on the weak side of the storm. The storm surge was most severe on the miss gulf coast.

Bush was referring to the storm moving east and blanco saying there was no levy breach monday afternoon. The media had headlines new orleans dodged a bullet.

Bush clarified this to the press and it is on the whitehouse website but yet the media won't play his clarification.

This was a set up for bush to not be able to respond out of the country and a day after chertoff testified.

I only wish the white house press office would have the sense to clarify this again for the media. They are playing his levy comment non stop without the clarification making him look like a liar even though mayfield only said topping of the levy.

One thing is very clear is that Bush's press office is severely undermining him. How in the world can they not issue a press release referring to this. They have to know by now the media will lie. How can they allow the media for the last 24 hours to play that clip without the clarification. He is on tape, can't McClellan get a clue it is right there on the whitehouse website. We know reporters are lazy but you would think Bush's own people would take care of it.

I can't believe how willfully ignorant the media is being about this...no wait, I guess I can.

It's painfully obvious that EVERYONE KNEW THE HURRICANE COULD CAUSE LEVEE BREECHES. It should also be equally painfully obvious that NOBODY THOUGHT THE LEVEES WOULD BREACH ONCE THE FURY OF THE STORM HAD ALREADY PASSED. But they did, and so everyone got caught off guard.

Why is this so hard?

What's funny is that if Bush and Brown et al are guilty of anything, it is BELIEVING THE MEDIA REPORTS THAT THE BULLET HAD BEEN DODGED. The irony...

You're right: let me rephrase. I'm constantly horrified to re-discover that people are so ignorant that the media is able to successfully employ this strategy. I could be a rich man if I could just dangle a shiny object in the same people's faces while I help myself to their wallets.

This is only one of many issues related to Katrina that the media has lied about. The media conveniently forgets that the president declared Louisiana a disaster area BEFORE the hurricane hit. That has never happened before. The feds. were also prepositing supplies in the area and Bush was all but begging the incompetent Blanco and Nagin to order mandatory evacuations. Before the storm hit, they never did forcing the president to order the evacuations on Sunday before the storm hit.

Additionally, we know that Nagin and Blanco refused to allow relief supplies from the Salvation Army, FEMA's primary material support arm, to get through to the Superdome so as to not encourage people to go to the Superdome. We also know Nagin allowed hundreds of buses that could have been used to evacuate people to end up under water by his inaction.

Nagin is attacking the administration to take away attention from the real failings in the response to this disaster, his own, because he's now in a tough mayor's race for NO. He is making stupid remarks about why the feds. didn't have troops ready to go right away into NOLA after Katrina hit. So Nagin is proposing to but federal and National Guard troops in harm's way as a massive hurricane is about to hit? Yeah Ray, you're a genius.

Finally, I am not sure how Bush, Brown or anyone could have convinced people to evacuate a city when they had no motivation or energy to get up and look out for their own safety. So many in NO's inner city were inculcated with the notion that govt. is a miracle worker that will come swooping in to save you when you're not doing anything to save yourself. No one was going to make up for that character deficiency in people so addicted to the welfare state that their only response to a storm bearing in on their heads was to sit and wait for government to do something for them.

But the media ignores ALL this to focus on attacking the Bush administration as well, as if there is no other explanation for why an unpredented storm of size, scope and intensity caused an imperfect government response at all levels. Once again, the knee jerk MSM explanation is to just blame it all on Bush. Hell, they're so intent on attacking the president that they're now exhonerating their former whipping boy Michael Brown. This has just gotten unseemly.

McClellan is the worst press secretary in history. This should have been squashed this AM.

It's hard because the object of these exercises is to make Bush look bad, not to properly inform the public.

And nobody in the administration realized Sen. Mary Landrieu and others in the Louisiana delegation had re-allocated money the Bush administration had authorized for levee reinforcement into local pork projects instead.

"Oh the media isn't ignorant, they know exactly what they are doing."

You are exactly right, but I am puzzeled as hell why the White House never goes on a full scale blitz to throw it back at the "Drive By" MSM. WHAT IN THE HELL IS ROVE & Co. DOING!!!!! He is supposed to be this wizard at PR, but he is really screwing the pooch right now!!! For one he keeps that Press Secetary that gets beat up on like a practice dummy and then he sends out people to defend the President but they don't do it.

START CALLING LIES, LIES for crying out and it starts by calling out indivdual members of the MSM.

Ignorance is no excuse.

Bush should have had a hotline to Mayor Nagin and Gov. Blanco.

Those two had everything in hand from the first hour........;>)

Did it ever occur, that maybe they do, but the MSM will never show it?

I remember watching the news just after the storm hit, and everyone in the media was talking about how we had dodged a bullet.

Of course, the MSM convenient forgets their own reportage.

Bush told them to evacuate people days before the the storm even hit. How convenient that they "forget" to mention this FACT. The same Bash bush trolls are at it again. The leftist hags on "the view" were at it this morning as well, even when one of them tried to point out that it is the responsibility of local government to put a plan into action, they just ignore the fact and go straight for Bush.
