French racism is prevalent. It is not uncommon to hear "Sale Juif!" and "Sale Arab!" ("Dirty Jew!", "Dirty Arab!") among even otherwise respectable people.

On the other hand, French Catholic schools should not be compared to American ones. French Catholic schools are poorer and the education worse than at French Public schools.

I would imagine (though can't prove from the article) that this Jewish kid was in a Catholic school only because his local public school was probably predominently arab.

Interesting place France for a Jew, Imagine having to go to school with the Catholics because the Sand Nazi's have overrun the public schools.
