Senate Coverage -- (March '06)
Thomas ^ | 3-1-06 | US Congress

Posted on 03/01/2006 6:27:28 AM PST by OXENinFLA

Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).

So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.

If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.

Here's a few helpful links.

C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.

C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.

C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.

C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.

OR FEDNET has online feed also.

A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).

THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]

Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority

And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.

Leaky requests a voice vote .. says it's his St. Patty's Day gift

I think they are getting punchy from working so many hours

Well...luckily it is a non-binding non-legal piece of legistlation...doesn't need the President's signature.
What makes me so mad....these guys were off last Friday...they just came back from "President's Day" WEEK...

And now they act like they are gonna DIE if they work tomorrow...a FRIDAY, before yet another week's vacation!!

I am disgusted by their attitudes...and a lot of votes were voice votes...which are DANGEROUS, because we don't know what are in them, yet...and it is a lazy way to do business.

Well Lugar is a Foreign policy wonk, so he's been known to hang out with unsavory characters.

He's also the one that was pushing for the journalist shield law

Well yes, the only consolation is they can't spend money while they are not in session.

Well....here we go though...the Sunday Talk shows will be about the DEBT being raised to 9 Trillion...and about Bush's low poll numbers...

And about that Immigration Compromise, probably...

However, if Frist had called for the Censure vote that Feingold called for...THAT would have been the topic...about how stupid Feingold was...and how transparently political it was...

BUT, Frist...sigh...announced to the whole world that it would be done when they get back...which gives SOROS more time to spend money bribing Dems to vote FOR it...and Tim Russert two weekends to drone on and on about it...gag me.

I think I shall take a sabbatical this Sunday. Thanks for informing me of this. You are very perspective.

I couldn't agree more....I was so upset to read tonight that Frist is waiting to call for a vote after their recess...talk about letting an opportunity slip before your hands......

Hmmmmmmm, why do I not like the "tone" of that answer??

Methinks you are tired of we "ignorants" or lazybones...whichever applies.

LOL....Okay...with the caveat that tomorrow is Friday...so, if something happens to change the political or domestic landscape by Saturday, I reserve the right to revise and extend my prediction.

Beats me. I wasn't paying attention to the Senate, and noted that you guys were. I'm diddling around on other things, as I'm wont to do from time to time.

Not at all. If that was the case, I'd read much less FR.

I just heard an explanation on C-span 2...that the reason Mary Landrieu was the only democrat that voted for the final passage...was because she was in negotiations with the Republicans all day..

She will get an extra 10 Billion or 10 million (didn't hear that part).for New Orleans...for her vote..

BUT, the guy from Roll Call said that with all of the negotiations and chaos today...the Republicans must have miscounted...because they thought "getting" Landrieu to vote YES...would put the count at 50-50...with Cheney coming in to break the tie...

So...they were all surprised when Mary's vote put it at 51-49...

McConnell is the "whip"...is it his fault or Frist's..or Gregg's since it was his package...???

Must have had one less GOP crossover than expected.
Chafee, Coleman, Collins, DeWine, Ensign

She [Landrieu] will get an extra 10 Billion or 10 million (didn't hear that part)

Billion. Nine zeros. 10,000,000,000 dollars.

I figure it won't be possible to untangle what all went down today, until later in the week - maybe even later in the year. Plus, lots of it "doesn't matter" because the House and Conference Committee get a whack at this.
