Pakistani forces have killed or wounded at least 25 people in a raid on suspected foreign militants near the Afghan border, regional officials say. Troops backed by three helicopter gunships attacked a suspected militant camp in the North Waziristan region.
"It was a training camp of foreign miscreants," local government official Sayed Zaheerul Islam said.
The attack comes just days before a visit to Pakistan by US President George W Bush. Last month, Pakistan protested after a US missile strike in the Afghan border region killed at least 18 people. Last week, the authorities in North Waziristan announced a temporary truce to allow tribes people to clear the area of foreign militants. ...'Under fire' ....Mr Islam said the attack took place at Saidgai, about 15 km (10 miles) north of Miranshah, the region's main town. All the troops disembarked and surrounded the village Nek Amal Khan, a tribal elder ...He said the militants had "set up tents in mountains in the area". An ammunition dump was also hit and loud explosions could be heard, he added. Pakistani army spokesman Maj Gen Shaukat Sultan said the raid was launched on the basis of "confirmed intelligence" that militants were in the area. He would not give details of casualties but said a special task force had cordoned off the scene of the raid and was carrying out a search. Last month's US air strike killed many people and sparked protests One eyewitness, Shabbir Khan, told the BBC's Haroon Rashid that a woman died when the vehicle she was travelling in came under fire. He said he was not sure who fired on the vehicle.

MISCREANT (American Heritage Dictionary)
NOUN: 1. An evildoer; a villain.
That word for terrorist is just fine with me (even though it's French in origin). The Pak gov't has been using it for a while.
It beats "militant" or "insurgent" by a country mile !
Explained that way ,it sure dose !
