A lot of women will have no regrets whatsoever about terminating a pregnancy, especially when it's done very early. I know a couple of women who had abortions when they were young, and later married and had children. They don't regret it. They know the only reason they're able to provide a decent life for the children they did have was because they didn't screw up their lives and education and finances by having a baby when they were in no position to raise it decently. Some women do have regrets, but it's hardly a given.

I seriously doubt there are many women who have regrets about having aborted a pregnancy that was caused by rape or incest, or would have any trouble telling their daughters about it. Most mothers would prefer that their daughters not have to live with the fear that the horror of a rape could then be followed by 9 months of the horror of being forced to carry the rapist's baby to term.

Just because 'some women' don't care that they have killed a baby that does not make it right. You can name every sin on the planet and find someone who thinks it is ok or justified but that certainly doesn't mean that said sin should be accepted by a society. NAMBLA thinks that raping little boys is ok and justified--so, by your reasoning, we should accept their position b/c they are ok with it? Stupid argument.

You didn't answer my question. My question was: How do you explain to a young woman, one in which you have told her entire life that 'if you are pregnant then you have a baby and it is wrong to kill that baby', that in her case (of rape) it is ok to kill the baby? Is it a baby or not?!

BTW: You don't speak for 'most mothers'...I don't care how much 'serious doubt' you feel.

I am truly a glutton for punishment, but I just have to respond-- I am a woman who had an abortion at 17 and regret it with all my heart--but the regret came years later, when I became pregnant with my living daughter and saw the sonograms, felt her move at 4 months and developed pre-eclampsia and lived through the fear of losing her--and possibly dying. But I can only speak for me, and having been through these experiences I would never presume to speak for other women. Getting pregnant at 17 was just stupid, and I don't blame anyone but myself, though I do lay some blame at the feet of the "me" culture I grew up in of the early 70's, when the message was to just do whatever felt good.

You are right though, when you said "some women have regrets, but its hardly a given". Many of the women I grew up with had an abortion at one point; some regret it, some do not. While I cannot understand not regretting it, I cannot judge them. That's God's place, not mine.

As much as I regret and repent what I did, I cannot honestly say what I would feel if I had been raped at 17, as opposed to simply being silly and irresponsible. I cannot bring myself to condemn women who've made that choice after a rape. And to whose who say that any women can claim she was raped, I have to tell you very few women would put themselves through that to get an abortion. I find it offensive.

We all know that no one is going to change anyone's mind on this issue. But I feel compelled to speak out both against abortion and in defense of women who suffer post abortion regret.
