"HOUSTON Feb 27, 2006 (AP) Andrea Yates on Monday rejected prosecutors' plea offer of a 35-year prison sentence and is expected to face retrial in March in the drowning of her children.
Prosecutor Joe Owmby told state District Judge Belinda Hill that the state would leave the offer on the table until March 10, 10 days before Yates' trial is set to begin for the deaths of three of the five children.
Yates has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, as she did at her first trial."

So, how crazy can Yates be if she is making her own decisions about rejecting plea offers?
How crazy can Yates be if she rejects a plea offer, because she thinks being re-tried for being crazy is a better deal?
If she gets convicted again of being crazy I think she'll be getting what she wants, but if she's found sane, what's she going to do then, say, "I was crazy for not taking the plea offer?"
I think I just hurt my head trying to figure this one out. This story just gets crazier and cazier.
Please don't change the headline (FR rules)....pinging AM
The original headline is "Awaiting Retrial, Yates Rejects Plea Offer"
i probably won't win any popularity contests with this statement, but i have to believe anyone that kill her children IS crazy.
Well, how crazy are they to offer her a deal?
I agree with you.
having said that though...do i ever want her outside a prison? NO.
whats crazy is that she drowned ,not 1, not 2, not 3, not4, but 5, yes FIVE of her own children......she knew what she was doing, crazy ass woman.
The important thing is to determine if she knew what she was doing was wrong. Killing your children is crazy, but not legally crazy if you know you shouldn't.
how about the "not guilty by reason of tired of the kids" plea
didn't she say she was saving them from evil or something crazy like that? (wasn't trying to make a joke!)
This is a case that makes me wish there was a "guilty by reason of insaity" plea available - and the sentance would be treatment, and then jail when they were sane enough to understand what they did.
a normal mom finds another way to deal with it. she was on drugs for her problems for awhile too. don't know if that helped or hindered her problem.
I think she did say something like that, but I would expect that. What's more interesting to me is that she called the police after committing the murders. That sounds like someone who knew what she was doing was wrong.
maybe. i just cannot imagine it. not 5 babies and be sane.
Why don't you ever want her outside of prison? Who do you figure she might harm? Why should the tax payers of Texas pay to keep her locked up forever?
I can certainly see punishing her to deter others. But it is not exactly like the streets are made less safe like when they let out thugs.
Don't foeget she killed them to be with a man who didn't want kids who wasn't her husband !
A bullet between the eyes is the best option for her !
even if she is crazy she should be made to pay for the rest of her life for what she did. she shouldn't be given a second chance at life when she took 5.
Err, I think that was another crazy mom.
Andrea was off her meds and also into some sort of loony religious thing, IIRC.
This is one of those cases that makes me wish we could just bring the kids back and forget the whole thing and I know you do too.
Let's face it, if the "not guilty by reason of tired of the kids" plea was acceptable this would be the last generation of human beings on the planet.
