GOP governors worried about Bush stumbles Republicans fear port security, other missteps will hurt in an election year Pablo Martinez Monsivais / AP President Bush, center, speaks with members of the National Governors Association in the White House on Monday. Republican governors worry that administration fumbles will hurt the party in an election year.

Feb. 27, 2006 WASHINGTON - Republican governors are openly worrying that the Bush administration’s latest stumbles — from the natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina to those of its own making on prescription drugs and ports security — are taking an election-year toll on the party back home. The GOP governors reluctantly acknowledge that the series of gaffes threatens to undermine public confidence in President Bush’s ability to provide security, which has long been his greatest strength among voters. “You’ve got solid conservatives coming up speaking like they haven’t before — it’s likely that something’s going on at the grass roots,” said Republican Mark Sanford of South Carolina. “Whether it’s temporary or not remains to be seen.”

As GOP governors seem as interested as increasing spending as fast as Congress and the White House, stumbles are irrelevant. Perhaps these governors should look at putting their own states in order.

The governors should grow spines and get their heads out of their butts.

May, possibly, remain to be seen, if,... At the end over 90% of Republicans will be end up supporting President Bush any other democrat or Republican in the country.

There are a few things that could cost the republicans votes in the coming election but hurricane Katrina isn't one of them.I don't think the democratic party will have much to do with the outcome of the election either. It might come down to the number of conservatives who decide to stay home on election day instead of casting their vote for someone they don't like.
