10-year veteran of the California Highway Patrol, Iraqi war veteran, husband, father of four and resident of Adelanto, died late Saturday night in a fiery crash touched off by an alleged drunken driver.
Motorcycle officer Gregory Bailey, 36, was pronounced dead at 11:46 p.m. after he was caught in a spiral of debris
created by a suspected drunken driver who veered off the shoulder of Interstate 15 north of Oak Hill Road.
Bailey was a sergeant first class in the Army National Guard. Just four months ago he had returned home from a 15-month tour of duty in Iraq. Bailey, who used to work out of the CHP's Barstow office, was assigned to the CHP's Rancho Cucamonga office, he was on his way home from work when the accident happened
The driver of the Honda, which touched off the chain-reaction accident, is Domingo Esqueda, 20, of Adelanto, according to a press release issued by the CHP.
Esqueda had a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit, Eads said. He did not have a valid driver's license. What he did have was a fake identification card, a Mexican identification card and other identification all with different names and different variations of names, Eads said.

Yes, I know this has been posted before. But the last post did not have Baily's service in Iraq, nor the information that the Perp is an illegal alien.
May GOD bless Officer Bailey and his family.
Hate hearing this kind of news.
WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET THE ILLEGALS THE HELL OUT OF HERE??
Finish the fence. Seal the border.
I don't want any law enforcement officer to die in the line of duty (my sister is LAPD in South Central no less), but it unfortunately happens - do you have a link for this suspect being an illegal alien? The only "Domingo Esqueda" I find on-line was captured in San Antonio, Texas from the Altadena Blocc Crips gang.
Cops will still be killed - I'd rather not see the U.S. in a recession (or worse with some massive global trade war) myself - how about increased enforcement AND increased levels of legal immigration?
God Bless you Officer Gregory Bailey and the nation thanks
you for your service to our country.
May the Good Lord watch over your family.
RIP.
If my family is out late for any reason, I can't sleep until they're home and safe.
Drunk drivers (regardless of immigration status) should get stiff prison time - death penalty if they kill someone.
that makes the 6th CHP officer to die in the past 5 months, I think.
Perhaps if we all in force forwarded the reports everytime an illegal is involved in a serious crime such as this to the WH, someone there would finally get the message the borders need to be sealed.
Unfortunately, it's very easy to assume a drunken driver in California, with a Hispanic surname, is an illegal alien. Generally that's only true about 75% of the time. I'm glad you posted the article and presented the facts.
Officer Bailey, one of the many victims of illegal immigration in California.
I wish someone or something would keep track of the human damage caused by illegal immigration. That's now becoming possible as more and more communities begin keeping records regarding citizenship status at time of arrest.
True, but there would be less killed if Bush had built the wall and kicked them out. Yes, illegals have been coming over for ever, but their numbers have grown so in the last few years and with 9/11, I place every one of these incidents squarely on Jorge's shoulders.
Prayers.

Obviously you do not live here in AZ or CA, or you would not say that
A few months ago, a 27-year-old officer in Huntsville was shot in the face and head by an illegal Mexican when he was checking up on a domestic violence call. The illegal had false documents on him and had actually been arrested three times before - under three separate names. This was the first officer here killed in nearly 30 years. Left behind a wife and young children. Makes me sick.
I live in California.
Only God knows that for sure.
