Dems Want Special Counsel ("Domestic Spying")
Fox News ^

WASHINGTON — The White House on Monday rejected the call by several House Democrats for a special counsel to investigate the Bush administration's eavesdropping program. "I think that where these Democrats who are calling for this ought to spend their time is on what was the source of the unauthorized disclosure of this vital and critical program in the war on terrorism," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said. "I really don't think there is any basis for a special counsel. ... But the fact that this information was disclosed about the existence of this program has given the enemy some of our playbook." In a letter released Monday, 18 House Democrats told Bush that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales should appoint a special counsel. They said the surveillance of terrorists must be done within the bounds of U.S. law, but complained that their efforts to get answers to legal and factual questions about the program have been stymied — "generally based on the feeblest of excuses." "If the effort to prevent vigorous and appropriate investigation succeeds, we fear the inexorable conclusion will be that these executive branch agencies hold themselves above the law and accountable to no one," wrote the lawmakers, led by Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., a member of the Judiciary and Homeland Security committees. . . . Snip.

The dems are insisting that a Special Prosecutor investigate the program v. investigating the real crime, namely, who leaked its existence. I hope the Administration remembers that it has the power of the executive and doesn't back down on investigating the real crime

Simple as that.

Aren't these the same Democrats who accused Bush of being "too casual" about national security? Now they want to have a special prosecutor to determine if the president was too overzealous on natl. security? Isn't it funny how the Democratic mantras change according to the Bush bashing media-created crisis dejour?

They accused Bush of not "connecting the dots" prior to 9/11, and now they want to deny Bush the ability to "collect the dots." I'll pay attention to the Democrats when they stop playing politics with national security.

The LAST thing these idiots are interested in are ANSWERS, what they want is the ISSUE, like the famous "22 indictments against Rove"...

The ISSUE carries a lot more weight than actual FACTS. They milked the Fitzmas thing for nearly 2 YEARS, making Bush look bad, and they want to do it again.

That Fitzmas back-fired on them is of little consequence, because they are more interested in a constant stream of bad media based on "Anonymous sources" and "Attorneys close to the investigation" that they can simply make up as they go along....

This old news so to speak. They mentioned this earlier in December. The problem is

1) There is no special prosecutor law,

2) and It would clearly be unfair and a conflict of interests if the DoJ were to investigate, the only legal method to do so, the DoJ for issuing a finding that supports the program.

I'll pay attention to the Democrats when they stop playing politics with national security.

And when they stop contradicting their own rhetoric on natl. security, one day calling Bush too fanatical about natl. security and "Stirring up fear" because of wiretapping, the next calling Bush "too casual about natl. security" because of the ports issue,

They will try absolutely positively ANYTHING to try to impeach Bush. They hate him just as much as they love the terrorists.
