Let's hope the party listens to Pence, because I'm hearing the same rumblings everywhere now. It's almost an open revolt.

Pence is right, The GOP has become every bit the Big Government party that the Democrats are. More later, but an annual growth rate in domestic discretionary spending of 8.2 percent, as oppposed to 2.3 percent under Klintoon, tells a lot of the story.

Why don't we put Pence in charge of the party? Seriously, if he runs, he may be a darkhorse, but there will be strong, convicted supporters behind him.

Mike Pence for President.

Heck let's just clone him and replace 90% of the rest of the GOP federally elected representatives.

I wish I could express myself this eloquently. He's dead on with his observation. We are dealing here with the kind of vote buying that was pioneered with FDR and the left. As P.J. O'Rourke puts it, "It's the ultimate scam; you bribe people with their own money." I'd like to add to that that the bribery is being done with our descendent's money now.

The ultimate problem is that the American Public wants to have its cake and eat it too. Everyone in government knows that we could balance the budget with Social Security and Medicare reform; cutting subsidies like agriculture, energy, hwy funds and much social program spending.
The last time a major effort was made to do this was when Gingrich and the GOP were castigated by Clinton and the MSM as starving school children and throwing the poor and homeless out in the street. Clinton played the government shutdown to perfection and Gingrich had to back down. The message was set-reducing spending was not politically beneficial. Of course small cuts were still possible, but even when the congress recently cut $40Billion+ (minuscule compared to what was needed) the hue and cry from the left went up: blaming the deficit on tax cuts.

Perhaps I am an idealist, but the other defining moment was when the Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution failed the Senate by one vote. Had that vote passed it would likely be in the constitution by now.

The American Public can be educated about balancing the budget, but unless our leadership has the will to do that over a long period of time, it won't happen.

An $8 trillion national debt

Actually it's 8.259 trillion as of this morning ... a lot of money. If it was laid out end to end in dollar bills it would stretch for 781 million miles. A jet plane traveling at the speed of sound (741 MPH) would require 120 years to fly from one end to the other. Traveling at the speed of light (186,000 miles per second) it would take one hour and ten minutes. And they keep on spending like drunken sailors ... Republicans and Democrats alike.

I can sum it up for you in 3 simple letters and numbers.

9......1......1,

W......A......R!

This may just have something to do with it. By the way, have you checked into the history of our economic condition and spending during other past wars? If you do, you will see that it is actually remarkable that we have still maintained our economy in comparison.

Seek the TRUTH and all else will fade away....

I will not doubt be attacked, called a flaming lib or a flaming idiot but here goes.

On the education bill. We either force testing for kids and teachers or we have a country filled with illiterate kids from the underclass who will cause more trouble than we can imagine, from crime to health issues.

As for the prescription entitlement. We can pay for checkups, and medicine now or pay for long term care for undiagnosed diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease, and a host of other expensive treatments that could have been avoided with earlier checkups and medications.

In the long run, these expenditures help keep medicare and medicade costs down.

We can debate from now to doomsday if medicare and medicade is a legitmate government function (I don't believe it is) or we can deal with it in a way that minimizes the costs that will bankrupt us later.

Don't call me names, tell me why we ought not pay for prevention......

**The GOP has become every bit the Big Government party that the Democrats are.**

Let's give this slogan a reality check:

If Democrats were in power:

We would have sociailzed medicine - Hillary care

We would be answering to a Global Court and paying global taxes in the name of global warming.

We would be wondering when Saddam was going to nuke us after being freed from his obligations to disarm by the UN.

Hamburgers would be up there with ciggarettes as the demon thing to be taxed and regulated to death.

We would have lost our second amendment rights at the Federal level

Marriage would mean whatever the left says it means. Gays would have special rights. You would have no right to disassociate yourself or your children from their self idenity - their sexual behaviors - without being a civil rights violator.

"Hate speech" would land you in jail.

There would be no discussion on the borders; anyone who brought it up would be shouted down as a racist from Democrat Party power in Washington.

We would be under sharia by now in order to make peace with the muzzies.

Democrats would be tracking, taxing and rationing your oil usage and mileage in the name of global warming.

See Hawaii as to what would have happened at the national level when oil prices when up.

Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would have used Katrina as an excuse to lead the charge for deeper welfare and preference benefits to victims of hurricanes.

The White House would be a full blown Hollywierd whorehouse.

Heads of committees in the House and Senate would be the most extreme and disgusting Democrats in Washington: Teddy Kennedy, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, Chuckey Shumer, Sheila Jackson Lee and the congressional Black caucus, etc.

We would have placed two more radical left justices on the bench of the Supreme Court and many more in Federal courts.

Instead of looking at Katie Curic's scowl every day, you would be looking at her gums.

Whic is why pork barrel spending increased by how much again? Entitlement programs grew by how many billions? We gave away how many more billions to foriegn Nations under aid programs?

911 and the War on Terror called for a few extra billion, yes. I agree. But that does not excuse the runaway spending in EVERY other area of government.

Medicare's costly new prescription drug benefit, an $18 trillion unfunded liability sponsored by the White House and our Republican leadership, starts in January.

Just two years from now, in 2008, the enormous Baby Boom generation will begin retiring, ceasing income tax payments and starting to collect benefits, leading to a budget squeeze unprecedented in U.S. history.
