'Righteous gentile' who saved life of Jewish boy dies at 74 By Amiram Barkat
Sim Yeryomin, one of the "righteous gentiles" who saved Jews during the Holocaust, died last weekend at his home in Beit She'an.
Yeryomin, the son of farmers from the Kursk region of Russia, was 10 in April 1942 when he came upon Victor Feinstein, 13, who had collapsed as a result of malnutrition. Feinstein had escaped from the Cracow region after his mother and younger sisters were murdered by the Germans. Feinstein survived through the winter, wandering hundreds of kilometers, from village to village, until reaching the Kursk region.
Yeryomin took care of Feinstein for several days on his own, bringing him bread and water, before telling his parents about the Jewish teen. His parents brought Feinstein into their home, bathing and caring for him until he recovered his strength.
Despite knowing that Feinstein was Jewish, the family sheltered him until the area was liberated, in April 1943.
Shortly after Feinstein immigrated to Israel.....he asked Yad Vashem to recognize Yeryomin and his parents as "righteous among the nations."
Yeryomin married a Jewish woman, Zina Shimnovsky, in 1959. In 1996, after he was widowed, he immigrated to Israel with his remaining family.

So the word "tourist" is bad because it designates that you are an outsider in the area.
As is "visitor". And you are never a "stranger" nor know of any.
You didn't respond. Who murdered the Jews of Europe. Who watched indifferently?
Vis a vis their Jewish victims, give those a name.
I suspect that Gentile has a different meaning to me than to you. I don't have a problem with it because I come at it from a traditional Biblical perspective. (Well, actually it's more complicated than that, but too much so for this conversation). I recognize that Sabra's use of the word is probably different from mine, also.
I do see what you are saying, but for MY understanding and use of the word, it is not an issue.
Gentile is not a derogatory word and this discussion is becoming idiotic and tiresome.
You are a Gentile. You will remain a Gentile unless you choose to convert.
Be offended if you wish.
It is a title of honor for those Gentiles who risked their lives to save Jews. That's pretty cut and dried.
'Most modern evangelicals would consider a "Killer of Christ" grudge against Jews to be bad theology.'
Certainly. I am a Gentile, and yet it for my sins that Christ died. I am as guilty as any man for driving the nails in His hands and for mocking Him at the foot of the Cross, and for driving the spear into His side. You are guilty of this act, too. Because of the disobedience of Adam, we all inherit sin and death. Because of the perfect obedience of Christ, we can inherit eternal life.
I killed my Savior -- and yet He forgave me and covered me with His Blood.
I'd have to say that any Christian who delivers a "Killer of Christ" from death is indeed Righteous. Especially if he risks his neck like the Good Samaritan.
Can everyone please try to remember that Jesus himself is a jew and that Christ is not his last name but is translated as "annointed" or "the annointed one" .
At that place and at that time, it was far from "normal" for Christians to risk their lives to save Jews from the Nazis. "Normal" would have been to let the kids starve rather than risking the wrath of the SS.
I'm not afraid to ask the question, as your tag line suggests. I have always been a supporter of Israel. I have studied WWII at great length. My problem is that "righteous Gentile" has the same ring as "good Jew." Hitler liked the Jews who helped him out in his little war.
I recall a number of people in one Candian town whispering, "He's a Catholic, but a good person." The implied contrast bothers me.
I admire all those who helped the Jews before and during WWII. The savage persecution of Jews has been a stain on Western history and now lives in another form, the Leftist support of radical Islam: Hamas, PLO, etc. etc.
Condescending is the right word. I am not offended, as someone suggested. Do they know if I am a Jew or not? I wonder. Anyway, I believe the term makes the people using it look bad, condescending, as you say. I admire the action. I think the behavior of non-Jews toward Jews has been atrocious. It helped breed the Russian revolution. It gave Hitler's political machine its energy.
It's not about you. It is Sim Yeryomin's story. It is his world. Listen to what he is saying, and not how it is said.
I read your profile, so I will tell you that I am thankful that when I don't know what to pray for the Holy Spirit knows my heart and prays for me. I am thankful the Lord does not turn a deaf ear to me because I pray as a fool.
We all know the Jews have a catalogue of righteous gentiles. I don't care if they use Gas Free Germans. These stories come from grateful hearts.
Besides. The correct designation is "Righteous among the Nations". Righteous Gentile is simply shorthand.
"The Nations" is the word used from biblical times- by Jews- to describe the rest of the World: Those not Jews.
It is the translation to both the words Gentile and the word Goy.
There are groups in America that call themselves Christian and Conservative, but they are neither Christian or Conservative, but neo-nazis.
They hang around conservative boards looking for cover and trying to pass off their warped philosophy as conservatism. If you look into these groups you'll find that many of them had pro-islamic radical sympathies, which they have tried to cover up since 9/11.
Like nationalist socialists everywhere they scrap with world socialists and this can make them appear conservative, but they are still socialists, not conservative or Christian. Like poison apples they will spoil the whole barrel if allowed to remain in it.
A tip off that you have encountered one is animosity toward Jews under cover of Christianity - a trick their international competitors also like to use.
No true conservative or Christian harbors animosity toward Jews - don't be deceived by them. We all share a deep contempt for neo-nazis and their world socialist brethren.
See above. It is easily obvious that anyone having trouble with the term "Gentile" is not coming unbiased to any issue involving Jews.
I would be honored to have my name among the Righteous of the Nations. It would mean as much to me as the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross combined.
Any have a problem with that?
I'm with you!
