Well all and all, it was a very enjoyable olympics. Torino was a beautiful location for it and appears they did a great job with it all.
Kudos to the Italians.
I'm actually not looking very forward to the "China coming out party" in 2008. I heard the Chinese and Russians are teaming up with training with the primary goal of doing whatever necessary to take medals away from the US.
China has implemented something called "Project 119" which is to sink as much money as possible into the development and training for medals they might not be normally in competition for to try to guarantee they end up first in total medals. 119 representing the count of medals in the events they normally wouldn't put any effort into winning.
I hope the US is going to have a strong gymnastics team that can go for the gold because it would be a huge blow to the Chicoms to lose that one.
I liked that they were playing "That's Amore" when the US team was walking in the Closing Ceremony tonight.
It *sounded* like Dean Martin, but surely they had somebody Italian who sings it, too. I think all the Italian-themed background songs tonight were in English and by American singers, but I didn't see all of it or hear all of them.
