BAQUBA, Iraq, Feb 26 (Reuters) - Gunmen opened fire on a crowd of teenage boys playing soccer in the Iraqi town of Baquba on Sunday, killing two youngsters and wounding five in what a police official said was a sectarian attack.
"This destruction was an attempt to spread sectarian tensions," said the official, who asked not to be named.
The official said three gunmen in a car drove up to the area where the boys were gathered and opened fire. They were playing soccer in a mixed Shi'ite and Sunni neighbourhood in Baquba, he said.
The attack came after the bombing of a Shi'ite shrine in the town of Samarra north of Baghdad on Wednesday triggered post-war Iraq's gravest crisis and appeals for calm by leaders fearful of civil war.
Agreeded. Poor kids and parents. THe more you look at it you know its got to be outsiders. Stuff like this makes it apparent to me
What courage and bravery to wage war on unarmed teenage boys.
These warriors sons will sing great songs and tell their children of this great deed.
What is up with religious fanatacism? Even if the moslems converted the entire world, there would still be war because they hate each other. This is one of the reasons why no ones could sustain control of Afghanistan for centuries--the mujahadeen fought each other when they weren't fighting the aliens.
Still, it's a crying shame to see children gunned down while they play.
I feel the same way about soccer....but I wouldnt kill anyone over it.
ah the religion of peace....
This is complete BS (the notion of WHY this was done). This is simply the MSM trying to KEEP the idea of an Iraqi civil war alive. They wish it was so much so (though reality is not on their side....again).
These type of reports will not be standard in all MSM reporting (just as U.S. body-count #'s have become the norm to report in 90% of all reports on Iraq). The new additional standard will be to report everything threw the prism of "it's a civil war".

"I feel the same way about soccer....but I wouldnt kill anyone over it.

LOL! You are a bad person!
Seriously, the intent is clear. The crime for which they were executed was living in a mixed Shi'ite/Sunni neighborhood. This is another step in al Qaeda's plan (or dare I mentioned the puppeteer and say Russia's plan) to completely split the Shi'ites and Sunnis. Attacking people because they live in mixed neighborhoods is one small way of working toward this split. Once there are no mixed neighborhoods, the chance of transmission of peace feelers between the communities is reduced.
Zarqawi has been extremely effective at using our own media. Nothing he has done since the war began has theatened the most important field of support for the war and that is the US. You don't see him releasing tapes threatening to hit Europe or the US like you see Bin Laden or Zawhiri do. Because Zarqawi knows that would boost public support for the war in the US.
Instead Zarqawi wants to take as low a profile as possible (ego premiting) and has been working to either turn this into a civil war or get the US public to see this as a simple civil war that we have no buisness being a part of like Murtha has said. And, the second the US public does think this is a civil war the public pressure will become incredible for withdrawl.
I don't think the vast majority in the news buisness have a massive left wing bias (many do) however I do think most are idiots and soulless whores. And, the WH message machine and the Pentagon message machine has down right sucked. I was happy to see Rummy admit that a couple days ago.
It is pathetic that someone so evil has been so effective at using our whore media of course you can only be used if you want to be used and the media wants to be used by anyone who will try.
Sweet, playful Iraqi kids.
These barbaric losers' attempts to bring on civil war are geting more and more desperate.
May God bless and comfort the poor families who are shattered by this sick act.
They won't succeed at that.
The Iraqis are on to them and they are beginning to unite.
Well, both do hate America
They must have grown a pair since they're not targeting women and children in buses or office workers in skyscrapers.
Yeah, I'm starting to get a little worried now. /s
" Once there are no mixed neighborhoods, the chance of transmission of peace feelers between the communities is reduced"
Agreed
Yep, they're still trying. We see what's going on here (it's all calming down now), we hear more details from the Iraqis coming in off the streets from different parts of town and then we see what's on the news and say "Huh?"
It's not matching.
The media's all bummed out again and making last ditch efforts to affect a civil war out of last week's bombing.
In reality, it's just not happening.
Here I completely disagree. The vast majority in the MSM (those reporting...and more importantly those in charge) have a complete ideology (Left ideology) dictating how they want the "news" reported.
Without question this is the reality. The MSM is 99% "agenda" driven.....regardless of the facts. Those running the MSM news divisions today (and those in the U.K.) see themselves as a tool in "changing the world" to their ideology. If that means spinning, lying and completely ignoring facts.....so be it....it is done daily.
The media's all bummed out again and making last ditch efforts to affect a civil war out of last week's bombing.
In reality, it's just not happening.
This is exactly what I have been hearing from others on the ground in Iraq as well in the past 48 hours -
But I think it is clear now that along with "body-count" figures that are a must in 99% of MSM reports concerning Iraq.....the new "must" will be to report every thing through the "prism" of how this shows Iraq is headed toward a "civil war".
The MSM are pathetic.
Not sure Bill Buckley and George Will are MSM.
Some people think the Civil War's been going on for over a year, other people don't think there is one now or will ever be one.
I'm one of those who can say with some certainty that ... we shall see.
