Two of the really great ones, and I really do mean "Great" gone today.

He totally made "Kolchak" what it was. No one else could have done it.

Two great actors that made TV worthwhile while I was young.

It is a sad day; not only the loss of these two gentlemen but my youth is slipping away much too fast.

They tried this season, and it flopped...it really flopped. McGavin will be missed, along with Knotts. (sigh--guess I'm getting really, really old...)

So true! Recently I went looking for my old tv tapes of the show, found a bunch of them unplayable, I was so ticked. Saved them for the kids, and now my last is old enough to enjoy them. Hopefully they'll be on dvd.
He was some actor, really pulled you into it, yet he didn't go over the delicate line, and with a character like Kolchak that can't have been easy. Preposterous story lines, yet he made them gripping.

RIP, old fellow, and thank you for the good times.

In the book, Kolchak was an overweight alcoholic. I'm usually a stickler for being true to the book, but in this case I'm glad he was cast. He created a character unlike any other, which is pretty hard to do.

His late wife, btw, once played a hottie on the original Star Trek.
