They lack the intestinal fortitude to defend Western Civilization, and they need to hear it.

They hate Western Civilization, so much so that they don't care about the grotesque alternatives to it!

"islam needs a Martin Luther"

Perhaps impossible, according to this informed analysis.

"islam needs a Martin Luther. "

Gosh, I hope not! "solo scriptura" applied to the Quran is a formula for the fundamentalism that wahhabists represent. Read the 9th Surah, Bin Laden does!

NO, what Islam *really* needs is a Muhammed scholar to tell them the truth: That Muhammed was a flawed man who lied in parts of the Quran, if not all of it. They need to tell every Muslim that the original real religion that Muhammed was creating was Judaism itself and if they want to be honest they need to look in the mirror and say "I am a Jew", and that the pagan rituals Muhammed adopted to create Islam were a corruption solely designed for political purposes to gain adherents (ie to win over Mecca; this is what the 'satanic verses' were about)... and, Last but most important, that the lie that TORAH and Christian BIBLE were 'corrupted' was not introduced by Muhammed at all (check the Quran, it never said that) but by later Islamic leaders trying to compete with those religions. Muhammed's original project/idea was to create a Judaism for the Arabs, but when the Jews themselves rejected him, he turned on the Jews and attacked them.

In the end, building an understanding that Islam is a parasitic and derivative religion, that has inherent flaws and contradictions, should help moderate its views.

"It needs a reformer who is not afraid to be radical if that is what is needed to right the wrongs of his faith. "
The unerlying foundation and religion from the days of Muhammed are flawed, and have been flawed ever since Muhammed used his 'revelation' to kill dissidents, take his relatives wives, and break agreements to attack and kill other tribes, and groups (like Jews of Medina). You cannot 'reform' such a foundation into health, you must have muslims who announce and declare Muhammed himself as a flawed man.

A very good and important article!

...

The main presentation by this [start new-window link here] Father [Christian] Troll http://www.sankt-georgen.de/lehrende/troll.html was very interesting. He based it on a Pakistani Muslim scholar [named] Rashan, who was at the University of Chicago for many years, and Rashan's position was Islam can enter into dialogue with modernity, but only if it radically reinterprets the Koran, and takes the specific legislation of the Koran, like cutting off your hand if you're a thief, or being able to have four wives, or whatever, and takes the principles behind those specific pieces of legislation for the 7th century of Arabia, and now applies them, and modifies them, for a new society [in] which women are now respected for their full dignity, where democracy's important, religious freedom's important, and so on. And if Islam does that, then it will be able to enter into real dialogue and live together with other religions and other kinds of cultures.

And immediately the holy father, in his beautiful calm but clear way, said, well, there's a fundamental problem with that because, he said, in the Islamic tradition, God has given His word to Mohammed, but it's an eternal word. It's not Mohammed's word. It's there for eternity the way it is. There's no possibility of adapting it or interpreting it, whereas in Christianity, and Judaism, the dynamism's completely different, that God has worked through his creatures [emphasis added].

I read this article and think it is too pessimistic. Islam is all about submission and mankind being no better than animals, when it comes to self-determination. Women must cover themselves because men have no capacity to overcome temptation, i.e. they must submit to divinely chosen leaders because they are merely animals.
Yet, in voting and choosing leaders, suddenly they DO have a stake in life. Yes, the results are frightening because they are choosing radical fundamentalists, but when these beasts actually start implementing sharia, they will be overthrown. Too much internet and news is available to put the genie back in the bottle. Remember, it took 1300 years for Christianity to overcome divine monarchy, and Islam is about that age now.
WOSG is correct that the man Mohammed must be dethroned.
