Buckley has had a history of being on the unpopular side of some issues with Conservatives. He has disappointed me a before. Besides, it wont be so .. unless it actually happens in Iraq. He may have been the father of the 50s Conservative Movement, but hes one step in his grave now. He doesnt have it anymore. Rich Lowry seems to be a good replacement.
---He has disappointed me a before. ---
He doesn't see the right to keep and bear arms as particularily important.
He may have 'disappointed' you before but he is usually right. In this case, in the long run, he will be right again. Rich Lowry is nothing more than a partisan hack. I'll take the esteemed Mr. Buckley's views over Lowry's any day of the week
Yeah, but he doesn't disagree with conservatives on the most important foreign policy issue of a generation. He was right and in agreement with the things that mattered.
What Buckley has to say has to be taken seriously.
Stop and consider that Buckley was the MSM's favorite 'conservative' and 'go to' guy for 30 years. They let him define 'conservatism' and he seemed to define it downwards to their satisfaction. Anyone more conservative than him was then painted as an extremist.
No, this really isn't a departure for Buckley. It's more of the same. Perhaps he has been out of the spotlight too much lately and he misses it.
