The secret force behind the propositions (California).

Some of the nation's leading conservative thinkers and strategists are seeking, through Schwarzenegger's initiatives, to alter the balance of power between the right and left wings of California politics. Their hope is to turn California red in '08 and pioneer a new gospel that can spread across the country.

The grandest Republican architect is Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform...

Norquist is behind Proposition 75. It's a Trojan horse whose larger purpose is to tilt the balance of power in politics by limiting union support for Democrats without cutting corporate sources of Republican funding.

Texas Rep. Tom DeLay inspired Schwarzenegger's Proposition 77, which would redraw political districts more to the benefit of Republicans and do so in 2006

Proposition 76 is another Norquist special delivery, one he and other conservatives have pushed in many states. It gives Schwarzenegger extraordinary budget powers to cut spending.

Most California voters are socially progressive and Democrats — and they are not enthused about Schwarzenegger or his ballot measures. The governor is counting on them to stay home on Nov. 8, while motivated conservatives go to the polls.

If that happens, Norquist, DeLay and Reed will have the last laugh.

I searched the news and this came up on Google News, listed as published on Feb. 22, 2006, but when clicked on the link, the article said Oct. 30, 2005. I don't know if it was a glitch in Google News, or whether the LA Times reprinted their early editorial.

But it's highly educational -- they go into detail about how Propositions 73, and 74-77, the ones Arnold fought for, were motivated by conservatives.

Too bad that some people swallowed the propaganda by the Dems and faux conservatives and voted against them, or didn't vote.

I'd suggest that the party stop blaming conservatives and join us in the fight to get rid of the gang.

If the gang delivers more of the same rhetoric next week with no substantial action plan hopefully moderates in the party will help us throw out the Austrian pretender. California does not need two liberal parties.

I've read your excellent posts on another CA thread, where you said in one of them:

"What really, really ticked me off to the point of downright disgust and contempt for so-called "principled" conservatives is that so many failed to vote in the special election. Schwarzenegger gave California conservatives a chance to start a hairline crack in the stranglehold Liberals have in this state with several of his propostions. "

Well, this article also shows that you were right, the propositions in the special election would have allowed "to start a hairline crack in the stranglehold Liberals" as you put it so well.

Remember, a lot of people read your posts, not just the three or four people, who want to chase you away from the CA thread, so others won't read your and others' posts, pointing out the obvious, that working to get Democrats elected is NOT a conservative position, "pricipled" or otherwise.

Let's look at taxes under the Wilsonegger gang.

California currently suffers under the highest per capita tax burden in the state's history. Taxes are so high that in spite of the gang's record spending binge in 2005/2006, the largest ii the state's history, there will be a surplus on the order of 10%.

Did the Wilsonegger gang proposed a 10% reduction in tax rates for 2006/2007? No.

Did the gang propose to pay off all the Prop 57/58 bonds saving Californians over $30B in interest charges. No.

What did the gang do? Proposed borrowing another $70B and increasing spending another 8%. Pure liberalism run amuck.

I challenge the CAGOP to open the Republican primary so that Schwarzenegger can be ejected. Just open the primary! California Republicans will do the rest.

Yes, please let's look at taxes:

Teachers union backs Angelides for governor Treasurer says he'd raise taxes to fund education

====

Angelides calls himself a champion of "progressive values." As state treasurer, he has pushed public pension funds to dump tobacco stocks, invest in urban renewal projects and pressure corporations into cleaning up the environment. A close ally of labor, he also supports abortion rights, gay marriage, gun control and driver's licenses for illegal immigrants.

If he makes it into a general-election race, his call for increasing taxes could pose problems; Schwarzenegger has been steadfast in opposing higher taxes.

And you still want Angelides elected.

Republican architect ... Grover Norquist... "He refers to Democrats as 'the enemy'; he has described bipartisanship as 'date rape'; and he likes to talk about reducing the federal government so much that he could 'drown it in the bathtub,' " the article says.

Cool! Perhaps he could inspire Arnold to embrace some of this thinking.

Keep insulting and pounding on conservatives FO. This approach is going to lose Republicans even more support.

Note to CRP leadership--Need new talking points.

And you still want Angelides elected.

Why the obsession with Angelides? Democrats don't even like him.

Why is the CAGOP leadership refusing to run a conservative, gubernatorial candidate against the Democrat's liberal gubernatorial candidate in November? Why run a liberal against a liberal?

Why won't the CAGOP leadership open the June primary so Republicans can choose who they want to support for governor?

Why is the CAGOP leadership attempting to force Republicans to support a liberal, Austrian citizen in November? Why not promote a conservative American?

What is the point of the CAGOP if it is trying to disenfranchise a majority of registered Republicans in June?

You realize the author of the piece is none other than Jaime Court, President of The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights (FTCR) and author of http://www.arnoldwatch.org, funded by Warren Beatty and other prominent members of the left, don't you?

If you are really interested in the gory details of the initiatives and why they failed, perhaps you should read some brutally honest Republican strategists who watched the campaign from the sidelines in dismay as Arnold and Company unloaded the shotgun at both feet. See here and here, for example.

This is last year's news. All of the propositions failed, regretably. The unions spent an ungodly amount of money to defeat Prop 75.

The point was that with the propositions Arnold went into a strong conservative direction, only to have the conservative desert him, instead of helping him take a few steps in the right direction to wrench control of CA away from Republicans.
