Just saw the footage of Julia Mancuso winning the GS. The interviewer alluded to the fact that she had been disparaged by people on the Today show as not being serious enough. Julia handled it gracefully and didn't even take the opportunity to shove the gold medal in their faces.

I am being to get suspicious that there is a Friday night Freeper party that I never get invited to...LOL

During the week, when I don't have time to keep up, I can't wait until Friday..and the weekend...

And then it just goes quiet.....

Yeah, I have been hearing chirping crickets all night...LOL

I see your point....I think one of my favorite "moves" is when the couples are skating and the guy throws the woman...WOW...how scary, yet cool.

Man, what is the DEAL with Costas? His questions to Sasha was totally downers. Why'd you fall...how come you couldn't....how does it feel to not win....

If I was Sasha, i would have said, "Man, you are really short in person! And such small little fingers, too!"

I love Opening and Closing Ceremonies. They are, in my view, the higlights of each olympics.

That bit with the film clip of "The Flying Tomato" wishing to meet the elegant Sasha Cohen was funny, although Costas kind of put Sasha on the spot with that.

My husband and I ended up walking alongside Bob Costas after a Red Sox game at Fenway Park last summer (we didn't say anything to him). He is a VERY small man... I was surprised! Sasha Cohen looked like a tall, leggy model sitting next to him.

So have I; more than I thought I would actually.

Learned a lot, too. Hope I remember it in 2010!

I was seriously wondering the same thing last night! Where was everyone during one of the most exciting Olympic nights of all? Oh well...

During the week, when I don't have time to keep up, I can't wait until Friday..and the weekend...

And then it just goes quiet.....

I know... doesn't it drive ya nuts?!

Costas has been like that the whole Olympics...I guess wanting tears or something...

I thought she "handled" him very well...and good for her.

The egos at NBC are just too much.

These kids are extraordinary athletes.

To win a gold medal means to be the best in the world.

About 5 years ago I had the privilege and honor of meeting and shaking the hand of a 4-gold medal lady swimmer at my alma mater. What a lady! And, what a swimmer! So humble and yet one of the greatest athletes of all times. Her name now escapes me, but if I see her picture I will recognize her.

Maybe I should go and search for her photo...

Good grief, I just learned that gold medal winner Shizuka Arakawa has been living in Avon, CT and training at the International Skating Center of Connecticut in Simsbury... less than five miles from me! Our local NBC news just stated that "she will be bringing home the gold" to Connecticut. Wow, I had no idea... I really should go over there one of these days...

One time in high school when I was a junior, a buddy of mine and I were sitting in his car waiting for some other guys to show up to go running around. He looked at me and said one day he was going to win a gold medal. He ended up winning two in two different olympics.

You are really lucky to live up there where so many athletes train..

I would go over, if I were you.

Wow... he won gold? I know some people who have made the Olympic trials in swimming (long ago), but didn't make it to the Olympics. Just making the trials is very impressive to me!

Yeah, I haven't gone over there in a few years. They used to have really cool ice shows that they put together almost on the spur of the moment - based on who happened to be training there at the time. And it's a small venue - just used for training, ice hockey and skating lessons. But that makes for a nice, intimate place to see the "stars" up close, rather than up in the nosebleed section of some civic center.

Yeah, I will go over there ASAP. I don't know if you saw my post on another thread, but a few weeks ago, Ekaterina Gordeeva and her daughter Elizaveta (by skater Ilia Kulik, now her husband) were in front of me at the cashier stand at a small market I frequent across the street from that Simsbury, CT skating center. Apparently she and Ilia Kulik and their two daughters are living around here and training (or coaching?) over there. My husband used to see Viktor Petrenko at the gym he belonged to a few years ago. He trained at the Int'l Skating Center of CT for a long time (I think he has moved out of state).

We live "in the middle of nowhere" (IMO), I can't tell you how stunned I am to run into these figure skating stars out here! ;-)

I think Utah time is behind the rest of the nation. :) Wow on Evgeni Plushenko's exhibition skate. It was breathtaking with the live violinist and Plushenko's footwork. I loved the music. Shizuka Arakawa skated beautifully to "You raise me up." Sasha Cohen skated an excellent program as well. I didn't see all of Irina Slutskaya's program, so can't comment.

Face on Picabo Street. She was harsh on Julia Mancuso, who then went out and won a gold medal. I thought the tiara was funny and quirky. However I thought Street's comments on Bode Miller were spot on. Can Miller win a medal tomorrow??? 'Speedy Peterson' sent home and banned from the closing ceremonies. So sad.

And the American men took bronze in curling. :)

For being in the "middle of nowhere"...it sounds like you are in the mecca of Russian star skaters...

How lucky is that..if you can see them skate and train.

My how things have changed....I remember when a "Soviet Union" athlete would have to seek asylum to leave the country...

but now, they just move here and live their lives...

How wonderful.

I missed that...why did Peterson get banned from the closing ceremony?
