I can't stand it when people honk their horns for any reason that is not safety-related. I'm not prone to road rage, but unnecessary honking really ticks me off.

I just REALLY hate it when people use a car horn as a doorbell...I can be sitting inside at dinner, and hear horn blasts once, twice, and then a third sequence - and then I finally get up to see what the hubbub is, and it's Miss Soccer mom picking up the neighbor's kid, who wasn't hovering at the door for her. If I get the chance, I plan to explain to her that I promise not to ring her telephone every time I want to call someone else, if she'll only figure out that the first 'doorbell honks' may or may not be rude - but multiple 'doorbell honks' are undoubtedly so.

I have owned a number of older cars; I don't think a single one of them had a working horn when I sold it; I simply never use the thing.
I have always firmly believed that the horn should be wired in a serial circuit with the brake lights so that the horn won't sound unless the driver's foot is depressing the brake pedal.
Of course, that won't help my next-door neighbors who hail from Egypt and apparently never heard of doorbells.
