Eating in your car may save time, but what you gobble down could hurt your car's value, according to Kelley Blue Book.
Sixty percent of owners let people eat in the their vehicles, according to a survey by Kelley and Taco Bell. Only 34 percent said cleanliness was the top factor in long-term value.
That could be costly, the group said in a news release.
"Cars in excellent condition and appearance -- both inside and outside -- can be valued thousands of dollars higher than those in good or fair condition," said R. Nerad, executive editorial director and market analyst for Kelley Blue Book.
The survey found that people who allow eating in their vehicle were less concerned with their vehicle's overall appearance, ranking all vehicle attributes lower than those who don't allow eating in their car.
Thirty-four percent of people in the survey said burgers and fries were the messiest food they have eaten in their car.
Any studies on why women treat cars as giant purses?
Everyone knows someone who keeps their car like this. Yummmmmm.
I agree.... I get absolutely disgusted when I have to ride in or drive my wife's car. And she goes out of her way to avoid me having to driver her car.... she knows she will get an earful.
And now that we have two children (23 month old and a 3 month old) she tries to blame the mess on them. Only one problem ---- The mess is no worse now than before the children!
And guess what happens when she drives my truck for whatever reason???? In less than 24 hours, she turns my truck into the same sort of mess as her car.... arrgghhh....!
Unless you're having a side of fragmentation grenades with your burger, I don't think this anything a good detailing couldn't clean up.
Robt is startled at information, spills coffee over parts catalog and drawing in lap while changing radio stations.
Drops cell phone to wipe it off of seat, but fortunately carpet is (only slightly) stained.
Yeah - There were hundreds of rat feces, trash and nests under the seats as well.
I know you remember when they found the live rat living in the pre-Pimped Ride...
The value of a used car depends on whether you are trading it in or selling it. If selling it, of course cleanliness will be a factor. But even the Kelly Blue Book, which is quoted, does not have a "deduct" for an owner eating in the car. This is stupid, and likely a way of preparing us for a coming crash in car values...
Wow. If you wife reads your post she's going to be ordering this book from Amazon.
The old media's effort to turn people against fast food. Fries will kill your car!
H'mmm, eating in my car can lessen its re-sale value. I drove my last car for 13 and a half years and got rid of it when it decided to dump oil over my mother's drive way and the repair cost exceeded the value of my 1978 Vega. I've been driving my current car since 1991, when it was purchased to replace the Vega. I guess I've got to get into buying cars more often for this to affect me.
Yea, geeze you're keeping the economy down. Hahahahaha
Cheers! Toasting you with a hot mustard dipped Chicken McNugget.
I once rode in a 68 Chevelle with a guy and me and my friends had to take our shoes off before he would let us in the car.
Utter racism, "Thirty-four percent of people in the survey said burgers and fries were the messiest food they have eaten in their car."
Any Southeron knows the truth and it ain't 'burgers and fries'. Drive I-285 and imagine the mess as the rimz and saggin' suspension adjacent dumps the KFC to panic-skid.
now my 32 ford highboys cleanliness is a different thing altogether
