Nuclear reactors are among the most significant U.S. exports shipped out of five of the six ports slated for takeover by a Dubai company next week.
According to U.S. Transportation Department numbers cited Thursday by Newsday, the two "top products" shipped in and out of the Ports of New York and New Jersey are "mineral fuel [and] nuclear reactors." The New York-New Jersey ports handle 4,862 ships each year.
The Port of Baltimore processes 1,747 ships each year, where the top two products, according to Newsday, are "vehicles [and] nuclear reactors."
The Port of Miami unloads 1,247 ships annually. There the two top products are "apparel [and] nuclear reactors."
The Port of New Orleans processes 4,612 ships each year, where the top cargo is reportedly "machinery [and] nuclear reactors."
Of the six ports slated for takeover by Dubai Ports World, only Philadelphia does not count nuclear reactors as one of its "top products," with "precious stones [and] mineral fuel" leading the cargo list there.
Shipping numbers cited by Newsday are for 2004.
What is a "top product"? Are you saying that pound for pound nuclear reactors are shipped more than other products? Or are you saying that the most expensive things shipped are nuclear reactors? Pretty vague article.
It's newsmax, take it with a grain of salt.
I see, so the Dubai Ports will steal the nuclear reactors and deliver it to Iran, Syria, or a terrorist group (extreme sarcasm)! Man how stupid do you think people are to buy your idiotic inference here?!
Oh no. The N word. The terrorists will now be shipping nukes through our ports. (sarcasm)
You know, I had no idea we were shipping thousands of nuclear reactors all over the world. In fact, I thought the only thing we were exporting anymore was jobs to India. All kinds of amazing "facts" coming out of the folks who oppose this deal.

We ship 10 times as many as we have out of the country. Just a SWAG based on the numbers of processed each year from this article, approx. 7,600 ships. Must be more than that if it's making it to the top two products. Amazing.
I do believe post #2 on this thread was pretty succinct and on the mark.
Again I think we are getting some hype from somewhere. Wonder if we are getting some smoke blown with with the facts.
well go back 3 days and imagine this thread posted and imagine some of the responses......
who is stupid, then?
"First reports are usually wrong" Don Rumsfeld
Actually, I'm leaning towards supporting the Dubai deal - since it looks like the UAE is a far more important strategic ally than most of us knew just a few days ago.
For those curious, here's the URL for the Newsday report. Export details are at the end.

There must be one heck of a market for nuclear-powered jackets and hats.
Nuclear reactor kits don't include the 'batteries'. NewsMax is confusing nuclear reactors with nuclear fuel.
But the information you posted at the start of this thread implies Nuclear Reactors flow through these ports like Toyota's. Why would you want to make that false impression if you actually think the deal is legit? And with regard to the Newsday report...North Korea publishes less biased news articles. Here is the sub-headline...."White House says Bush was unaware of pending port sale, but legally required review was sidestepped." And then here is the very first sentence of the article..."The Bush administration put a Middle Eastern firm's deal to run U.S. seaports on a fast track to approval by sidestepping a legally authorized 45-day review" OK. Was it legally "required" or legally "authorized"? This stuff is trash, and your stuff usually isn't. What gives?
Products that are top. silly ;^)
shhhh, don't let the enviros know.
If we really want to increase our security deporting several hundred top Democrats would be the way to go.
