DUBAI — Terrorism is not an issue that can be held out against the Dubai Ports World (DPW) deal to operate US ports, Mohammed A. R. Galadari told WDEL radio station in the US State of Delaware.
'The Oklohoma bombing was carried out by an American. That does not mean Americans are terrorists. There were bombings and killings in Britain, but that does not mean you cannot deal with Britain, or it is not safe dealing with them,' Galadari told the radio in a debate aired live on the raging US ports management controversy.
'In every society there are bad guys,' Galadari pointed out.
To a question, as to what he thought about the reaction in the UAE to the US controversy, and whether people were talking about it, Galadari said: 'Not really. People here are talking about the economic growth here. We have 55 luxury star hotels, while London, Paris and New York combined might not have as many luxury hotels. That is the kind of growth that is taking place here.
And, people here do not talk that much the way people talk in the US or many other countries.'
In the event of the DP World deal failing to materialise in respect of the US ports, would it affect the relations between the US and the UAE, he was asked in the interview pre-arranged by the radio station.
The people of UAE had always had very good relations with America. Most of the UAE graduates, for instance, had their education in American universities. They all like America. If the deal fails to materialize, they would take it in their stride, that's it, Galadari said.
To a question as to how he viewed the controversy, Galadari said DP World is undertaking to manage the ports, which is a commercial operation, and it had nothing to do with America's or the ports' security. No one has so far questioned the competence of the port operator. Rather, only good words are said about its operations.
'Security is handled by the American security systems including the Coast Guard and the Customs. Security and commerce are two subjects and should not be interlinked,' he said.
ACCC not to oppose the proposed acquisition of P&O Ports by DP World
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will not oppose the proposed acquisition of P&O Ports by DP World, ACCC Chairman, Mr Graeme Samuel, said today.
P&O Ports is a global container terminal and stevedore services provider with a presence in 19 countries, operating 29 container terminals and logistics operations at more than 100 ports worldwide. P&O Ports' Australian subsidiaries lease, operate and manage terminals in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle. DP World owns, operates and manages container terminals and other port infrastructure around the world.
"The ACCC believes the proposed acquisition is not likely to result in a substantial lessening of competition in the relevant markets given the limited overlap of DP World and P&O's operations in Australia. DP World's presence in Australia is limited to Adelaide Port where P&O Ports does not currently operate", Mr Samuel said.
DP World also submitted requests for clearance of the proposed acquisition from competition regulators in Germany, Spain, USA, UK and Italy.

...Not all terrorists are American?...
The gall. The unmitigated gall.
Bomb2dust@1ce
I'm not sure I understand your meaning.
In reality they are terrorists, but just "dupes" according to you because they weren't in charge of planning.
YOU let them out I would rather see them fryed.
So we're supposed to be lectured by Mohammed A. R. Galadari?
So an Islamists learns to hate America in the madrasas, and then they go to American universities to have it reinforced by Leftist radical professors. Sheesh!!!
Excellent point!
Again, with that reasoning you must think the Gitmos are just dupes and not real terrorists.
I would never let them out because I think they're terrorists...not just "dupes".
Who the hell is he to tell us what the issues are?
This Khaleej Times? Here's what they say about the Mohammed cartoons.
In an editorial, the Khaleej Times of the United Arab Emirates expressed dismay that the Danish government has not formally apologized for the episode,
" The prime minister [Danish] continues to defend the insensitive newspaper in the name of media freedom. All freedom including that of the media comes with responsibility. Mocking peoples deeply held religious beliefs and sentiments is no media freedom. Its sheer and unpardonable callousness."

What else can we expect from a ME newspaper?
