The Chinese, Mexicans and Arabs own our government.
The oil companies have to make an appointment.

In approving the $6.8 billion purchase, the administration chose not to require state-owned Dubai Ports World to keep copies of its business records on U.S. soil, where they would be subject to orders by American courts.

Anyone still willing to defend this deal?

I demand that we form the External Revenue Service!

ACCC not to oppose the proposed acquisition of P&O Ports by DP World

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will not oppose the proposed acquisition of P&O Ports by DP World, ACCC Chairman, Mr Graeme Samuel, said today.

P&O Ports is a global container terminal and stevedore services provider with a presence in 19 countries, operating 29 container terminals and logistics operations at more than 100 ports worldwide. P&O Ports' Australian subsidiaries lease, operate and manage terminals in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle. DP World owns, operates and manages container terminals and other port infrastructure around the world.

"The ACCC believes the proposed acquisition is not likely to result in a substantial lessening of competition in the relevant markets given the limited overlap of DP World and P&O's operations in Australia. DP World's presence in Australia is limited to Adelaide Port where P&O Ports does not currently operate", Mr Samuel said.

DP World also submitted requests for clearance of the proposed acquisition from competition regulators in Germany, Spain, USA, UK and Italy.

Under a secretive agreement

I love the hysterics. The deal was done behind closed doors because that is what the law specifies.

Memo to the UAE: "I have an offer you can't refuse. Instead of thinking about what you will get for cooperating with us, let's change the subject to all the things we won't do to you if you fail to cooperate."

It would be nice to have a real opposition party that we could take seriously. Perhaps there is a problem with this deal, I don't know. I'll certainly never learn from the democrats who cry wolf. If President Bush shaves first up and then down, they'll decry that as the end of the world as we know it, stating flat out that it must be down, then up to preserve our way of life. What scares me is that Jimmy Crater (or whatever his name is) thinks it's a good idea.

The thing I don't get is that in the war on terror the endgame for our enemy is getting a weapon onto our soil and killing hundreds of thousands of Americans. It is not Vietnam where the endgame was getting the sheep to turn against the war. It is not the cold war in which the endgame was an ICBM strike. THEY NEED TO SNEAK THROUGH OUR PORTS TO WIN. If we want to do "secret" deals with the UAE I don't really care. Pay them extra for oil, subsidize travel to Dubai whatever they want, just don't give them the freaking ports!!!!!
