Iran can do a lot of disruption by proxy, which is probably what they are doing. If they ignite an outright international war that would draw NATO and the US they would lose in short order, but if they can draw an attack they might find some allies. Iran will probably do something aggressive such as attempt to stop shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, maybe soon, and that would be a mistake on their part.
