Must have been Robitussin DM. Dextromethorphan is serious stuff. It prevents coughing by working on the cough reflex in the brain, and it's chemically similar to an SSRI (anti-depressants like zoloft). Plus it's a vasodilator, increases blood pressure.

No wonder pharmacies are starting to limit how many of these you can buy at once. Of course, that doesn't prevent people from ordering it on the net.

Special Memo to Lakeland Junior High Students:

Please go easy on the Robitussin capsules. No, you're not gonna catch a buzz of of 'em. You're only gonna get sick.

Thank you.

They probably heard that psuedophedrine, one of the ingredients is also used to make meth, and they decided to take a short cut. That is the drug that is now limited.

Same with prescription cough syrup. People in Houston are drinking it like water.

Had a cough; thought if a little is good more would be better! Isn't that how it works?

Hi, kids! Say "howdy" to good ol' Mister Stomach Pump!

Thank heaven I never did anything that stupid as a kid. BTW, banana peels taste terrible and it's hard to keep them lit. Or so I'm told...

Had a seriously bad cough once. Over a short period of time I ended up swilling most of a bottle of Robitussin. Soon after the walls started melting. I won't be doing that again soon.

When I was much younger, I drank almost a whole bottle of Robitussin cough syrup. I then had an out of body experience for over an hour. I kid you not. Never touched Robo since.

Read the ingredients on that bottle of NyQuil. Most of these syrups contain the same ingredients.

Uh...you seem to not know what your talking about.

These students were trying to trip on one of the active ingredients in the pills called dextromethorphan hydrobromide. Commonly called DXM. It is a strong dissociative/psychedelic that causes hallucinations.

I know what you mean about sleep. I'm not trying to tell people not to take these meds. Just be aware of what's in them and how they can affect you. A dose of Nyquil before bed isn't going to hurt most people :)

You know what's going to happen now? Some idiot politician is going to move to ban it. And then when I need it for a cold, I won't be able to get it.
