MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minnesota Public Radio is suing an Internet television network co-founded by Al Gore, claiming the network's alternative and amateur news reports interfere with MPR's trademark.
The San Francisco-based network, Current TV, and the MPR music station the Current are both transmitted via the Internet. MPR says the similar names creates confusion for potential consumers.
Current TV is a national cable and satellite channel featuring alternative news and "citizen journalism," or amateurs who send in their own news and video. According to its web site, viewers contribute about one-third of the station's content.
According to the lawsuit, filed Feb. 2, the TV channel changed its name from INdTV on April 4, four months after MPR applied to register "The Current" as a trademark, and after it launched the station.
Current TV issued a statement saying more than 300 U.S. businesses use the word "current" in their name. "We know of no consumers who confuse us with Minnesota Public Radio, and we cant imagine that anybody ever would," the statement said.
God help us if the 8 viewers of one network were to confuse it with the 6-viewer other network.
I was so sad when I found out Current TV was from Al Gore... I stumbled across it on directTV and somebody told me if was by Google.. in any case it's really entertaining.
MPR's "The Current" actually plays some decent music.
Most people wouldn't know the difference between MPR and MPR if you were watching them at the same time.
Uh, how's that again?
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.
part of the "culture of corruption" Nancy Legosi was talking about.
Lol..
I wish they would stop emailing and snail mailing their garbage to me.
I'm more like I am now than I ever was before.
Entertaining if you like liberal youth brainwash programming . The concept is just like MTV , only worse. Algore claimed that it wouldn't be political , a lie that lasted about a month .I specifically watched it to see how long it would take for them to start with the typical Liberal spew . They threw the Google name on it in a pathetic attempt to hide what it really is , leftwing garbage .
I would agree. I myself am a classical music person so I was disappointed to see WCAL get replaced by 'The Current'.
But they do play some good stuff, if that's what you like.

well, there's your problem - you watched it with the sound on... I find its better as background video while listening to music.
the older I get, the better I was.
Don't fact me with confusion...
