America can't interfere with this sale, despite the best efforts of Congress to use this issue to grandstand on. The sale of P&O to DPW is a sure bet.
The ignorance of business acquitions and how they are done is astounding.
It's really easy, DPWorld(based in the UAE) made a bid for P&O(based in the UK). The P&O shareholders accepted the offer and DPWorld will take over P&O assets.
The one talking point that kills me is that this was a "secret" deal.
I don't want us to try to interfere with the sale. We have no authority to do that. Neither of the companies are American.
I want us to block the assignment of the port management contracts from P&O to DPW. Congress can and, in my opinion, should do that. I'm not sure if they will. Those are American strategic assets and Congress has every right to determine if it is appropriate for a particular foreign government owned company to operate them.
If the assignment gets blocked, if I were in DPW shoes, I would strongly consider reneging on the deal because P&O was unable to deliver the contracts. At a very minimum, I would be demanding a price reduction because I wasn't getting what was advertised. My guess is that the deal would collapse and P&O would find themselves looking for a new buyer. See my post 268 to see who that might be.
