NEW YORK -- The Port Authority said Thursday it will file suit to block a Dubai-based firm from taking over operations at a Port Newark container terminal, saying the federal government has not given them assurances about security issues.

Rush was talking about htis today. He is in favor of the deal and did a bit of research. It was the longshorman's union that raised the scuttlebut to the dems. The union is worried it will harm their members.

As Tony Snow said, now we can see the plan the Democrats have to win the war on terror.
It isn't wiretapping. It isn't pressuring the jihadists to talk. It's a lawsuit.

Consider this...........
UAE and specifically, Dubai, is a tiny nation in a dangerous neighborhood.
It is by far the most westernized city in the region, other than those in Israel.
Tiger Woods just won a golf tournament over there a couple of weeks ago; a tournament he regularly patronizes.
My contention is that it is far riskier for the Dubai company to take over port operations in the US than it is for the US to allow the business deal.
Any miscue at these ports that hints at terrorism would make Dubai a prime target for retaliation.
Dubai will be a far better ally in the region than a potential adversary.
When the dust settles on this controversy....I believe that the deal will go through and be forgotten in 6 months.

I know.. damnit... stoopid facts...
You should have seen the reaction on another thread when I posted P&Os sale paperwork showing that DPI isn't actually owned by the UAE (or even managed by the UAE..), that this isn't a 'port sale'.. and that nothing will actually change other than who writes the checks...(basically..)

"The agency said it is not filing suit because of specific concerns about the Dubai company, but based on concerns that the government's secret vetting process was not thorough enough."
That may answer your question.

Chuckie Schumer may be a big mouth liberal from Brooklyn, but he is concerned about this entire issue. So are his pupprtmasters, the corrupt longshoremen's union.

I am sure there are other ports that would be happy to receive the ships that the PA is refusing to unload.

The sale of operations of the container facilities is a UK transaction, something we cannot stop. All we could stop would be the contracts to operate the facilities in the US or P&O's operational license in the US. If we do block operational licenses, then we would need to fill in that gap with another company. How long would it take P&O to remove all their assets, another company to move their assets in, and completely hire new staff and renegotiate contracts with the dockworkers. You are correct and these are issues. Sounds like a like a lot of work. I wonder if anyone is really up to the challenge.

If there are security issues the PA needs only to look in the mirror.

Tony Snow didn't have to review it! It's HILLARY I tell you, SHILLARY you bashbot! Ignore all the Republican politicians, don't take your eyes off

it's about Union jobs now. The democrats must be suffering from political alzheimers over this. they are forced to forget and retell their position about once an hour.
