Customs officials have arrested a man who confessed to shooting across the river at CBP Border Patrol agents near Rio Bravo in December.
In January, Border Patrol Chief David Aguilar visited Laredo after sector agents were fired upon three times within a span of two days.
Prior to that, the Dec. 28 incident was the last time agents were shot at near the river.
According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court, Timoteo Macias Tejeda told officers that he fired a .22-caliber rifle from the Mexican side of the river in the direction of Border Patrol agents to scare them off.
The agents were attempting to arrest four undocumented immigrants.
Tejeda, 28, who resides in the 7300 block of Privada Arteaga in Nuevo Laredo, was arrested Saturday and charged with illegal entry.
He was booked into the Webb County jail Sunday on a charge of assaulting a federal officer. On Tuesday, he was released from the jail into FBI custody.
Laredo Border Patrol agents have seen at least 10 assaults since October, while there were six total in fiscal year 2004 and 19 in all of 2005.
Troops!
WOW! That's against the law? I wonder when they decided that. Will they now try to enforce it?
I'm curious how they managed to grab him.
