Now I know I'll get flamed for these thoughts ...

If society hadn't relaxed physical requirements for LEO just to allow in women then it's would be almost exclusively a man's career (like it used to be). Now with the push for 50% women the need exists for "an equalizer tool". We can't just have woman shooting the men perps because they're larger so the taser has grown in popularity because it allowed more women on the beat.

Just reinstate the physical requirements and PC begone, then we can let the tazer go too.

I hope this is not a flame, but the taser and pepper spray are two tools that tend to incapacitate miscreants without resorting to damaging them.

It is not a bad thing to taze or spice a violent suspect. Man woman or dog, it is a very good option compared to shooting.

Guns and tasers allow an officer of either sex to stop a violent person without getting so close as to risk injury from a knife or fist or whatever, wielded by the target. No reason a male officer should choose physical contact with a violent person, when his personal safety is at greater risk that way. Our first priority needs to be to protect our law enforcement officers from any harm, not to protect violent thugs and drug addicts from "excessive" force.
