The authorities in Moscow have hastily removed posters congratulating Russian war veterans which mistakenly showed the American warship USS Missouri.
The posters were taken down on Wednesday - just hours before Defender of the Motherland Day.
The Russian defence ministry said it did not produce the posters.
A Moscow city hall official said the design "should have been shown to specialists who can distinguish one battleship from another".
A defence ministry spokesman, Vyacheslav Sedov, said "it was a civilian firm that produced the poster, and the people who made it were simply incompetent".
"We do have similar ships, beautiful ships. They should have used one of those," he added.

So maybe San Francisco will let the Russians have the Iowa to make up for it.

I think he used the USS Missouri for a Sverdlov class cruiser. That was the last "gun" warship the Soviet, er, Russian, er, whatever navy built.

And when did we see the last Iowa class Russian battleship??

So the Russians are also outsourcing to India?

It's actually not as crazy as it seems. In 1944, the British loaned the Russians an older batttleship, HMS Royal Sovereign, which was renamed Arkhangelsk, for escorting Arctic convoys for the remainder of the war. Returned after the war, she was scrapped in 1949 in the UK.

I was in a gas & food place off an interstate recently, and noticed a "support our troops" poster with a French aircraft carrier, a French (I think) helicopter, an army soldier wearing non-US-issue camo, and (finally) a US F-15 fighter.

This reminds of what happened at the University of Florida a couple of years ago. The company they hired to produce the media guide put a crocodile instead of an alligator on the cover. It was quite an embarrassing gaffe for the university.

Well at least the battleship didn't show Ronald Reagan on the bridge.
