Thanks!

My friend tells me that the PRC Ambassador to Oz (Madame Fu Ying?) is very aggressive, and has had some success in OZ in portraying "China's rise" as peaceful and perfectly benign. Meanwhile, China wants to buy as much of Oz's uranium as they can (for "peaceful nuclear power," of course).

Although my pal's grandfather served in the Middle East during WWI (the Gallipoli campaign) her focus is almost entirely on Asia. Particularly, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, and China. Her son, she says, is fascinated by the Oz Army's Kakoda Track (sp?) operations in New Guinea during WWII. Amazing stuff. It's really a great pity that American public schools don't go into much detail about Oz's WWII experiences. Americans really need to know much, much more about their Australian allies.

I had an uncle who served in the Middle East in World War 2. He was a machine gunner. He later went to New Guinea. I hope Australians never forget that Americans died in the thousands saving this part of the world. The rest of the world needs to remember that the US rebuilt Europe and Japan afer World War 2.
