"Ok, it's a great place to get drunk and laid, so that resolves the national security risks an Islamic State owned company working at our eastern seaports poses?"

That has to be the most ignorant statement I have seen so far, Congrats!

The Port is safe and accommodating, it's not a brothel or a nightclub, the EAU has opened up their Country for us to use their Air Bases and provide excellent security for our Naval Ships while in their Ports. The UAE have provided more support for our Military than any other Arab Nation, they are even training Iraqi forces for us

Not to mention the intelligence they are providing.

"The UAE have provided more support for our Military than any other Arab Nation, they are even training Iraqi forces for us"

See my post # 230 for a more realistic picture of who the UAE are.

btw, I think it's great that our invasion of Iraq sufficiently scared the UAE into coming over to our side, but before this action they were on the 'other' side. It is WAY to early to trust this new "ally" with our own seaports. If you read my post # 230 you'll see that it's more than likely they still have a lot of terrorist supporters around town. And all they need to do is place ONE of them in a NY ship yard, where he will be privy to how the Coast Guard provides bay security, how the Customs Agents inspect containers, which containers are likely to not be inspected and which ones are not.

I heard a Merchant Marine Captian speak on the radio tonight. This man (Capt. Kelley Sweeney) authored a book about terrorism at sea, (From the Bridge) and he has worked in sea ports his entire adult life. He says that companies like the UAE P & O are allowed to provide their own security checks of their personnel, and they typically hire subsidiary companies to run the ports for them. These subsidiaries will often times hire foreign workers for the terminals, who are not checked out by the U.S. government, and this is present-day, standard procedure.

Capt. Kelley specifically named a New Jersey port as an example of foreign hired terminal workers. He says these types of ports are referred to in the business as "landlord" ports, and pose severe security risks. He said it would be very easy for a UAE executive to place an "agent" on any of the ships they work with, who could then pass on whatever security information he pleases to al Queada. This whole thing stinks, and there's much more to it than meets the eye.
