LINCOLN, Nebraska (AP) -- The winner -- or winners -- of the biggest jackpot on record for any lottery in the United States won't be a secret much longer.
Nebraska Lottery officials planned to reveal who won the $365 million Powerball jackpot at a news conference Wednesday.
The winning numbers drawn Saturday were 15, 17, 43, 44 and 48, with a Powerball number of 29, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association of Des Moines, Iowa, which runs the game for the participating states.
The only ticket matching the winning numbers was sold at a a U-Stop convenience store in Lincoln, lottery officials said. (Watch what identity clues are on store surveillance cameras -- 1:58)

If I won 124 mil?
I don't need much personally, so I'd probably set up endowments for charities and causes that interest me.
College scholarships for kids I know plus other worthy kids as well.
Fund zero-cost spay and nueter clinics.

This time next year we'll be hearing they're totally broke. Why do Freepers assume this about everyone who wins the lottery? Some people who play are responsible people. Not every lottery player is a dolt.

Twenty years ago, give or take there was a winner of the NY state lottery..Curtis something..I think he won $50 million or so..at the time it was the biggest jackpot ever..well, he showed up at the Lottery office for the press conference with his wife AND his girlfriend...he was totally broke a few years ago.
IMHO, about the best thing that the lottery could do would be to require people to take the prizes over a 20 year payout..

I told my husband that if we ever won, we'd leave town immediately with the camp trailer and disappear for a few months.

That won't work. There are plenty of lending institutions that will allow you to use the 20 year payout as collateral for a lump sum.

If you have 10 lottery winners and 9 of them live happily and comfortable while one goes broke spending his money on whores, drugs, booze and Enron stock which one will show up on the TV the next year?

I'd make on last post on FR and disappear forever. I'd do a better job of hiding than Osama.

That can be easily handled..the lotery office refused to allow the payout to be hypothecated..and sent to the lending institution. A bank might be willing to loan Joan blow a big lump sum if the check was being sent directly to them every year..if not..well..different story..

If I won, which I won't because I don't play, but if I did and if I won, I wouldn't tell a soul...I'd be afraid someone would kidnap my jedis or, when they grew up and had kids, my grandkids.
I'm happy being poor! :-)

I'd probably donate the entire winnings to Christian churches and charities Nice thought. Would they want it, knowing where it came from?
How about starting a foundation for the treatment of compulsive gamblers and their families?

Nebraska Lottery officials planned to reveal who won the $365 million Powerball jackpot at a news conference Wednesday. Is it required that you show up to pick up the big check. If I had won, my first visit would be with a lawyer to find any way possible to keep my name out of the news and sign the paper work so the lottery office would direct deposit the winnings to my bank account. I would be out of the contact for everyone by then. I might even sit on the ticket for a month or two to wait for a big news story (like another Cheney shooting rampage) to hide the announcement that someone claimed the prize.

"Rockey said lottery officials planned to go to the store Sunday to verify the sale, which would entitle the store owner to a $50,000 bonus."$50K? Is that all?! I always thought the store took a certain percentage of the jackpot. Hmmm... guess not. Anyhow, let me win the lottery and I promise not to blow it all in just one year!
