Minuteman Founder and "Unfit for Command" Author to Target Illegal Immigration (Trouble for GOP?!)

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 21, 2006 -- Despite being the former governor of a border state in the throes of an immigration crisis, President George W. Bush has been reluctant to address the issue of illegal immigration, preferring instead to maintain warm ties with Mexican President Vicente Fox. That may change later this year, though, in the wake of a forthcoming book that promises to make security along America's borders the most hotly debated subject going into this fall's elections -- and one that Republicans ignore at their own peril.

Jim Gilchrist, co-founder of the Minuteman Project, and Jerome Corsi, Harvard Ph.D. and co-author of the #1 New York Times bestseller “Unfit for Command: Swift Boat Veterans Speak Out Against John Kerry,” have teamed up to write a shocking account of the endless flow of drugs, terrorists, and economic refugees at America's borders -- and to expose the Mexican government's open complicity in this full-fledged crisis. The to-be-titled book will be published by World Ahead Publishing and available in bookstores nationwide this July.

The Minuteman Project is a volunteer-based organization that gained national prominence last year for organizing a citizen watch along the nation's southwestern border to report suspicious activity to authorities. While denounced by politicians in the nation's capital -- including President Bush -- over-worked Border Patrol agents privately praised the Minuteman Project volunteers for their efforts.

“Illegal immigration is bankrupting states along the border, but this is about more than economics -- we're placing our national security at risk,” says Gilchrist, who along with other Minuteman Project volunteers has come under fire while on patrol and carrying nothing more than binoculars and cell phones. “Drug lords and violent gangs like MS-13 are streaming into the U.S. from Mexico. Terrorists are also walking in unopposed; our southwestern border is littered with Arabic papers and Islamic prayer rugs.”

“Politicians who believe that illegal immigration can be ignored must realize that Mexicans and others are dying every day along our nation's borders,” adds Corsi, whose book “Unfit for Command” played a key role in convincing the American people to reject John Kerry's 2004 presidential bid. “These economic refugees are often abandoned and left to die by the human traffickers and Mexican soldiers who smuggle them across the border. It's nothing less than a tragedy.”

While the GOP has made America's security a winning issue in recent elections, Gilchrist and Corsi's forthcoming book promises to reframe border control in just those terms, as a matter of national security, and one that President Bush and the Republican leadership can no longer brush aside.

Look for 1 or more candidates in 08 to run on the promise to secure the borders, no ifs ands or buts. May or may not be a good politician OTW. Hillary? Knew you'd think of her.

It is not trouble for the GOP---that's a Dem/blue-hair Republican/RINO talking point.

It's only trouble for the blue-hair liberal wing. It is THE issue of 2008, and NO successful presidential candidate can win by being on the wrong side of this.

Despite being the former governor of a border state in the throes of an immigration crisis, President George W. Bush has been reluctant to address the issue of illegal immigration, preferring instead to maintain warm ties with Mexican President Vicente Fox.

Back in 2000 Bush credited Fox with the "success of democracy". After six years Bush still thinks Mexico is a democracy?

He really should start reading the newspapers about now.

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.

It is a tribute to a promising new president -- and a tribute to a visionary out-going president as well.

Later today, I will meet with the president-elect of Mexico, and begin what I hope is a strong and constant friendship. I have a vision for our two countries. The United States is destined to have a "special relationship" with Mexico, as clear and strong as we have had with Canada and Great Britain. Historically, we have had no closer friends and allies. And with Canada, our partner in NATO and NAFTA, we share, not just a border, but a bond of good will. Our ties of history and heritage with Mexico are just as deep.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

You can read the speech here.

Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:

In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. Maybe we could just convince W. to do his sworn duty?

U.S. Constitution Article 4 Section 4:

"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,

and shall protect each of them against Invasion;"

Invasion: \In*va"sion\, n. [L. invasio: cf. F. invasion. See Invade.] [1913 Webster]

1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.

Some people, myself included are telling our congressmen they have too. And that they should not follow Jorge Arbusto off this cliff.

What does Mexico do for us?

(Other than satisfying 15% of our oil needs.)

What I'm hearing from this White House is that if we want to keep our "friends" happy, we must allow unlimited illegal immigration from Mexico, even if it's bankrupting our states, etc., and we must allow an Arab-based company to get its foot in the door of our ports...

Both situations are too high a price to pay for "friends".

Maybe this will help in the '08 elections to get the issue out there so maybe this time one of the mods will ask a question about it at the debates.

Bob Sheifer asked about immigration in the debates in '04. In fact he said he had more requests by the public on that question than any thing else.

Hmmmm, I can't help but wonder what's next?! Maybe our OBL big business Saudi friendly Republican friends along with President Bush in Washington D.C. wants Hamas or Al Qadia to take over the IRS and its collections operations so as to show the muslim community just how much America love s them and perhaps let Mexico be in total control of ICE. After all, they have outsourced just about everything else haven't they?! < /sarcasm>

With friends like these, who needs enemies? I wonder how they would like it if THEIR jobs were in danger of being "outsourced"?

I'm through with the bunch of them!

I don't remember any followup or anything, I think the mods at the debates mostly skirted the immigration issue.
