Anyone been to Dubai lately? It is one of the cleanest and safest cities in the world. Very westernized and very welcoming.

I was there in January of 1999. Ramadan was going on when we got there. At one point a coworker stepped outside with a teacup and was stopped by a cop (Yemeni). He was going to be arrested but we explained that he had just arrived and did not know about it (truth be told he had been briefed upon arrival but had slipped up). The local staff said he was very lucky to have been let off. Not my version of "very westernized."
