I think people are taking a superficial approach to DPW buying P&O.

They think UAE = arabs = terrorists.

I do not like the deal.

I am doing research to figure out the process that lead to this transaction.

I am looking to inform and to expose phonies like Schumer who say they were blindsided.

The US cooperation with Dubai has been public for 14 months.

"The US cooperation with Dubai has been public for 14 months."

Schumer is right on this thing. Maybe it's a situation akin to a broken clock being right twice a day, but he's right. By the way, our "cooperation" with Dubai in the past 14 months had nada to do with them controlling our eastern ports. The 'cooperation' was in trying to get them to help us fight terrorism, which is a good idea because in the past they have supported it, (and still do with their support of the Taliban and in siding with Iran that Israel has no right to exist.

But like Pakistan, they are our 'ally' only on the face of things and cannot be trusted like a true ally. Also, the UAE only purchased the P & O very recently.

No, I thik UAE = Muslims = terrorists. There are plenty of nice Christian Arabs in places like Lebanon.

This is a great political loser for President Bush even if he may be right about the deal itself. In politics being right does not mean a political victory. As you said for 80% of the people including majority of Republicans UAE=Arabs=Terrorists, and even if Saint Gabriel will be running this company people will always view it a such no matter how many facts the President will show them to the opposite, it is very unfortunate but it is very true.

I am really angry and very afraid not because of the deal but because of the very damaging political effect on President Bush and the Republican Party. The President should hold a press conference or issue another statement where he invites the Congress to scrutinize the deal for the next 30 or 45 days and if they see anything very wrong about it, the deal will be renegotiated or canceled. If the President will not do this in the next 48 hours, I am very concerned that his second term is FINISHED, and this is coming from me the most optimistic freeper on FR. Only the capture of Bin Laden, or Zawahiri, or Zarqawi can save President Bush if he insists on his current position.

At the present moment President Bush has put himself in a very damaging, if not fatal, political situation.
