The problem is not the fact that it's not being managed by a US company; the problem is that in the middle of the War on Terror our ports are being handed over to an Islamic nation that produces many terrorists!

It doesn't involve a "bid." It involves a Dubai company purchasing a British company that already owns the rights.

There is only one rational response to this
Everyone calm down and take a deep breath. There's obviously more hype than information out there right now.
Let's wait for more information and not jump off of a cliff.
So far the most compelling arguments against this deal are that both Jimmy Carter and John McCain are in favor of it. My immediate reaction is "this is BAD."
I want more information before I make up my mind.
Ultimately, however, if GWB, Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld and Condi Rice say "trust us" I'm going to go with them.

Only when the U.S. can manage the production of their oil fields, can they be allowed to manage the operation of our sea ports.

I mistakenly wrote contract when I sould have wrote company.
No US company put in a bid to purchase this portion of P&O.
Singapore and Dubai battled it out.

According to FOX this morning there are no US companies that do this sort of work....any FReepers want to start a new business?
I have to admit that I am a little nervous with Carter and McCain back Bush on this....

Don't forget Carter, he's on board with the President. Sorry, I can't support him on this one, something bizarre is going on when Bush plays the freaking race card over this...This deal worries me too, but I do find it ironic that Schumer and HRC, among other Democrats, are coming out against it. I bet if Bush had opposed it, then they'd be accusing him of racial profiling.
I was actually on the fence about this one, wanting to give the President a chance to express his side of things before coming to my final opinion, but now that Carter supports it...I mean, when is the last time Carter was ever right about anything!

I'm wondering if it would be Bush think it appropriate for UAE to buy American Airlines, or any major US airlines? So, what do you want him to do? Nationalize the ports and airlines? WOW, we could be just like a communist country then.

Headline says McCain backs Bush. Story says he backs the Senators and Governors who oppose Bush and want the sale put in limbo and have a full investigative process before allowing it.
